Assuming The Nightmare Scenario

Government Motors is NOT selling FS pick-ups anymore (legislation and politics kill the FS utility vehicles --- they have already put the mid-size diesel powertrains on indefinate hold, Their R&D pot ain't exactly overflowing)

Ford is forced to dip its wick in the government money bag as well (it's leveraged honey pot dries up) and is in the same boat as GM as sales don't pick up this year (as many analysts predict).

Fiat/Chrysler goes the compact route and pulls on its main european strength --- small to ultra compact fuel efficient vehicles (not a BAD thing, but not what we drive/want), BUT the political environment of late favors that.

So... you're left with Japanese imports that have heged CAFE with forced induction diesels, advanced sterling cycles, independent of Washington DC, and they trun out to be the only choice anymore in the full size utility vehicle market.

Do we give up on a new PU, or do we give in and buy "one of those".?..I dunno what I would do. The thought of an import truck is not my ball of wax.

Not a dooms day conspiracist, but it DOES seem like it could go this way.

Where do you all stand? What do you think the end-game is here?

I truly have NO CLUE, but I do know that I am getting queezy watching what's going on...

I'll be driving my truck a long time

I don't have the answer, but the American people did vote for "change".... AND Well..... we're getting it. :dunno:

I read about that too! When I see the import truck is the only thing to buy I ll check them out and then decide. Not much we can do I guess. Some of that Japaness tech may be pretty cool. One thing I believe for sure is that if this current goverment keeps going in the direction it is we won t know what country we are in soon

I totally clicked on this thread with an answer to the "Red Dawn" scenario. It even involved pissing in a radiator.

If your scenario happens, I'll proudly drive my truck till it won't run any more. My grandfather's '68 Chevy truck is still running - It's beat to hell and had three motors, so I'll take a page out of his book. Hell, I might already own a classic truck! Other than that, I'm not going to sweat it as there's not much I can do about it alone.

At the end of the day, supply and demand will win in the end. As long as we keep buying, there is a market.

I'm leaning this way. Drive it till the whells fall off....

Good thing I love this truck as much as i do. First car I've had in a long time where two years into it i haven't even CONSIDERED looking at another one. Seems like it was just yesterday that I bought it. Been almost two years.

Well, I LOVE this truck and plan to keep it until it dies. I usually get a new vehicle every year or two. I have this one a little over a year, but I am still modding it so its here to stay. Having said that, if this dies and I need a new truck and imports are the only thing available...I'll give them a shot. Nothing else you can really do. I HATE cars, so they really aren't an option. I guess we will find out, b/c this country looks to be going in the direction of your "nightmare."

Have we all forgotten about Land Rover!? LR3 cost what a Suburban does and tows 7,716lbs with 300hp and has some of the best offroad proformance in a suv today? Its made by a country that dosn't hate us, and built by a company that stands behind its product so much it even hurts it JD power rank. Its not a fs truck but its much better than a Toyota or Nissan.

Land Rover has been through every green attack on them, they don't care about the ****ing trees, they build what sells, big, gas sucking, expensive 4x4's. Remember the Defender is the worlds Chevy pickup.

I doubt I'll be around to see what eventually this ''circus'' transforms into.I know I intend to keep my Burb running until, like Frank says,''the wheels fall off''.I just hope my grandkids can adjust and survive the coming ''changes''.Adjust or perrish

If you really believe they are really going to stop making full size gm trucks. Then go ahead and buy that jap crap and dont forget if it wasnt for american auto plants we would be speaking japanese.go big three.Remember Pearl Harbor

I don't foresee them eliminating trucks. How can they? Many NEED them work, me included for construction. If such a thing happens, I will buy used. No way in hell I would buy a foreign truck.
