93 Octane?

Recommended Posts

I think I have an issue on my hands here. My Black Bear tune is in the mail, it left Justin's yesterday. (a good thing)

The tune is a 93 octane tune, and now at a quick glance at the local pumps, I can only find 91. (a bad thing)

Could I run shell V-power 91 with some octane boost?

Or should I look else where to find 93 octane?

Or should I send the chip back to Justin to be tuned for 91?

What happens if I run 91 and the tune is set up for 93? Will I blow it up?

I guess I should have looked at the pumps before hand (duh!) But I remeber just a few months back they all used to sell 93.

So a quality 91 should be fine?

No octane booster? I heard that stuff is a hoax anyway.

it will most likely be just fine. Your tables still have a range. Like I said, run a full tank of 91, if you hear pinging, have justin retune it.

I have a 91 octane tune and I asked Justin if I could run 89 and said the same thing. I have not tried it though and have no intention to. I run 92 octane all the time now.

Your local Sunoco station should have 93. I've never seen a Sunoco that doesn't have 93 octane fuel.

Come on up to Maine, I just called the three Sunoco stations with in 30 miles of here, max octane is 91. I guess that will do.

You are just fine running 91.

^^^^^Black Bear Performance just said it would be fine, so I don't think there will be a problem. Plus I have ran 91 in mine a number of times and never have had a ping.

I think there may be region-specific regulations on 93-octane fuel. There's none anywhere in Oklahoma, but cross the river into Gainesville and there's plenty to be found.
