Hey guys so my dads 2006 Chevrolet Silverado is starting to peeling along the seems and around the glove compartment. He barely ride the truck it has about 10K on it and it is always clean. I called the dealership to see if they would replace it or repair it but turns out his warranty expired 2 months ago and he is not covered. Does anyone have a good repair method that will blend the peeling part back into the dash . The dash is a charcoal colour. Is there a spray paint/dye he can get for it. Thanks allot.

That's not good to hear. I have the same year truck with the same color dash and also low mileage. Mine is not peeling yet, but then the truck sits in the garage most of the time and I always use a sunshade when parking the truck outside in hot weather.

I am not sure if you will be able to get satisfactory results by mixing the paint and touching up the spots. The best way would be to get a spray can of matching vinyl paint and spray several coats after removing the loose stuff by scraping it off. They sell vinyl paints but getting the right color is going to be a challenge.

Why wasn't this taken care of when his warranty was still in effect? That is the real question. It didn't just happen overnight. I would call some other dealers or really sweet talk the dealer who he purchased the truck from new. They very well make take care of this since the warranty just expired. I've seen it happen. It is possible. This is a design flaw/build defect. I've seen it on many of the 99-07 trucks.

Thanks for the responses and if i have to i will tell him to look for the spray paint for the dash, but as you said its going to be hard to match. A Mini 1 I realize what you are saying but the problem is when he popped of the dash cluster panel to giver it a full cleaning it was behind the other panel and was starting to peel outward to ward the visible part of the dash. And the problem with going toanother dealer is where i live there is only on dealer ( going Bankrupt) here and he has already talked to them and they said they can' t do anything for him. Which i personally feel is bull because the warranty only expired 2 months ago. But thanks for all the responses there appreciated and ill try to call the dealer again to see what they say. Thanks allot

no clue how to fix it, but I armor all my dash after every interior detail. My dash looks like new. It helps protect from the UV rays which produce cracks/peeling.

Thanks, He uses armoral too on his truck but when he brought it into the body shop they said ya it looks like new but your doing more harm than good. They said any silverado dash should not be armorald because its a painted plastic not a foam/ vinyl dash and that is what causes it to bubble. Personally i think there full of it but im not sure. If thats the case why does GM keep putting the cheap plastic looking dash in lol why dont they put good foam/vinyl wrapped dashes in. So im not to sure but i also use armoral on my truck and it looks great.

Yea, I think they are feeding you with bad information, just to keep you farther away from getting a new dash that should be replaced by them... Armor all has never caused any problems for me and I will continue to protect my dash.

EDIT: just remembered, plastic is the first listed material that armor all claims to protect. Doubt it would make it worse.

I agree 100% thats what i told him. I said if these idiots are telling you stuff like that are you sure you want them screwwing around with your dash. But i still need to figure out a way to fix the part thats bubbled. But thanks

it's not the armor all. i think its just from rubbing. I noticed when i replaced a vent in mine, that it was starting to peel behind the vent (not visible)... no armor all gets in there, but i can see it being an area that rubs with the shifting of the dash while driving. i wont stop using it... good luck fixing the peel, let us know how it turns out.

"foam/vinyl wrapped dashes" in my experience that will crack or split also. I've owned a '78 GMC that went through 3 dashes in 14 years as well as my '96 Ford F-150 I just got rid of.
