Evap/ O2 Heater Not Ready

Hey all,

Hoping someone can shed some light on my situation.

My 05 Silverado with the 4.8 has been popping codes for a few years now. 0442, 0459 etc. I knew they were emissions related and didn't worry about them too much until it was time to get it inspected. That's when I just cheated and cleared the codes and drove directly into the inspection shop, where it passed (2 years in a row doing this). Shortly afterward the codes came back.

Well now Texas has changed the emissions guidelines and as I understand it you can only have one not ready during the system check. On my truck the EVAP and the O2 Sens. Htr. were NOT READY. I was told to just "drive" the truck and the ECM would run the appropriate tests readying itself. This was about 500 miles and a week and a half ago. The MIL has not come back on either.

Is there something I am missing? I have taken it in 5 times all resulting in me driving away with a fail sheet and hurt pride.

I am ready to replace whatever is popping the codes but I am trying to avoid paying the 95 diagnostic at the dealer.

Thanks in advance!

Is it less than 86 degrees there outside?

One of the self tests is a cold start and this may require the engine to be at a temperature less than 86 degrees F.

(This is from an older book than you vehicle, so your specific vehicle may be different.)

Anyway I know it gets hot and stays hot in Texas. Perhaps try starting your vehicle in the very early morning when it is cooler outside?

And then also drive it and get it above 45 mph.
