Good Price For An 09?

So lately I've been thinking of trading up to a crew diesel, my needs for my truck are changing and I've always really wanted to a crew anyway. So I figured with the state GM is in and dealerships in general that I would go down and check out what type of deals are going on the 3/4 ton trucks. I went to my local dealer a drove a sweet 09 2500 4x4 z71, crew cab, LTZ pretty loaded and the new granite metallic color it was awesome.

After the test drive we pile into the office to crunch some numbers, so MSRP which really doesn't mean much is around 55k on this truck. I don't have many predispositions going into the sales office, I just know what I want to spend per month and I'm going to see where we go from there. The salesman tells me that the new deal going on is supplier pricing, which means this 55k truck is on sale for 51k. Right off the bat I'm skeptical, this doesn't even sound as good as invoice deal, the other thing is the dealer cash and customer cash, both of which total 3k I think. Which brings the grand total for this truck around 48k, before taxes and incense.

Maybe I'm wrong but this does not seem like a good deal at all and i pretty much got up and left at this point, I got my silverado 1/2 ton for under invoice years ago before GM went bankrupt, I was surprised to see that this was the best deal they could give me.

Is this is what people are paying, are people getting better deals than this? They definitely did not want to give me 0% APR either, although I've heard from guys on here that they have gotten the finance deal and the cash back.

What do you guys think?

GM went broke selling product below their cost. They sold below cost because of excess inventory. The inventory is chewed down to size, and the company is under scrutiny by bankruptcy courts. Your quoted deal may be pretty normal these days. Even used prices are going up. My '08 dooley has NADA trade-in value just $2,500 less than I paid new 18 months ago.

I did a KBB and an Edmunds price check on my 2006 Chevy 2500HD a couple of months ago. I did the same just a few days ago and found that my truck has gained over $2,000 in value.

Reason for this: the 2010 Duramax trucks are supposed to increase in MSRP about 15% because of added new government emmission standards.

The 2009 Duramax trucks are a pretty good value as is and good low-mileage used Duramaxes are very much in demand. Thus, the higher prices.

My 2006 with 5,250 miles on it is a good example of this.

Well thanks for the info guys, maybe now just isn't the time, I'm thinking of going back and seeing whats what when there trying to push the 09's out the door a little harder. Who knows maybe a better deal will crop up.

And I thought that my truck had low miles? Have the same year, same color crew cab 1500Z71, 10,600 miles. Do you drive your truck at all? I sure do not drive mine a lot.

You can get a lot better deal on a Dodge Cummins diesel right now. I see them discounting 2009 Dodge Diesels as much as $ 14k off the sticker. A nicely equipped new quad cab 4X4 can be bought for around $ 35k. There is no way GM will sell you a new equivalent 2009 Duramax 2500 for that right now. Try about $ 41k.

I just bought an 09 2500HD 4x4 crew cab in San Diego. As noted above, all dealers have the supplier pricing discount which varies proportionally to the MSRP. Then I believe there is a factory "rebate" which varies based on model between about 2K and 3.5K. Sticker on my truck was 49K (diesel/Allison). I managed to get them to add about 2K to the supplier discount, which put the discount at about 9K below sticker, about 44K out the door. They made some money I'm sure, but I got a nice truck for a reasonable deal.

GM was selling below cost for a while to rid themselves of dead inventory when the market was in the toilet. Last year was the time to buy if you wanted a below cost deal. I doubt seriously you will see anything close to those numbers again... especially since they have scaled production back to more closely match demand.

You think 7K BELOW MSRP on the truck you described ISN'T a good deal in this environment?

Sounds like a reasonable deal. I did similar in April trading in my 2007 Vmax crew for 2009 Duramax crew. MSRP was 51,650 (SLE) and I got it for 43,325 with all the supplier pricing, rebates, coupons, etc. What really pushed me over the edge was a reasonable trade in for my 2007 with 17k miles.

You won't regret going to diesel if you need the capability. The 2500 rides a little rougher, but there's no comparison to power of diesel especially towing. With the Allison tranny, it pulls hills of Eastern PA at 65MPH in 6th gear even with my 6500# travel trailer. The 6.0L was screaming to hold that speed!
