Resetting The Parking Brake Light

I've got a little problem guys.

I have a 2000 Silverado Z71 with the 4.8L and the 5spd manual.

I recently (yesterday) snapped the parking brake cable, which is no pressing problem because I can just shut it off and put it in gear. However, the annoying beeping sound that is designed to let me know I forgot to release the break just will not stop! The brake pedal is pushed in all the way, because the cable snapped while I was engaging the brake. When I try to pull the release lever, nothing happens, because the cable is snapped, so the pedal just stays planted to the floor and the beeping continues driving me mad. So how do I reset/turn off the beeping? I've had to drive my grandfather's Nissan- thats desperation. Please Help!

Pull the release handle, then reach down and pull the pedal up with your hand.

If it will not stay up, you can use a bit of wire, string, whatever to hold it up.
