Worst Truck Inovations Ever

thought i'd start another good ol fun thread about the worst truck inovations ever...i'm talking engine technology all the way to the radio...my biggest one that comes to mind was on the old chevy 5 speeds they put in a dummy light, but no rpm guage...so my dummy light burnt out and i pretty much listened for the motor to orgasm before shifting lol.....for some reason i always thought the built in tool boxes on the year fender under the tail lights on the titans were stupid, it looks super dinky and the doors swing up not down lol

All time worst is putting a freakin floor shifter in an Automatic(thanks Ford)Also thank Ford with the 05 F150 and Dodge with the 05 refresh for starting the trend of crappy cloth interiors,Toyota and GM Followed in 07.My 03 Ram and 05 Silverado had awesome cloth that was almost impossible to stain.........Now the cloth all sucks so bad I buy Leather even though I prefer cloth!

I think Dodge's new bed rail tool box to be pretty stupid. It's a great idea but the amount of space you lose in the box and the fact that the bed rail is like 8" wide ruins it. Also, the GM rain sensing wiper blades aren't one of my favorites. If they could be turned on and off would have been a nice feature.

I know I might catch some heat but I'll throw these out there.

Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors (people did ok without for 70 years)

DIC (kind of fun, but not neccessary)

Steering wheel controls (radio is right there, people did ok without for 60 years)

heated/auto dimming/turn signal non-painted side mirrors (would much have prefered a smooth painted set)

Electric Side Mirrors (how often since you first set them, have you ever adjusted them?)

Push-Button 4X4 (manual floor shift is more reliable and less parts or sensors to break/replace)

On-Star (nice feature when you need it, but only useful for the one in a million chance of a terrible wreck)

Auto-dimming/compass/outside temperature rear-view mirror (I guess if you don't know your local climate and geography, it might be nice)

6 way power seats (how often after you get it set, do you ever adjust it?)

How much could GM drop off their price tag if they didn't have all this fluff.......$1000-2000-3000????

Sounds like you might be against automation all together  .

Torque management, AFM, and losing 4wd light in instrument cluster!

I would put all of those thing on a best Ideas list myself, especially if you add the Automatic Headlights and Keyless Entry.

I agree....

power mirrors are handy when on the highway and I need to adjust for towing or just want to look at something on the side of the truck.

TPMS is great, too many people neglect tire pressures, it has saved my mom from being on the highway with a tire that had a slow leak. I have a friend that got in his truck without passing by the passenger side, he had a flat and as soon as he started the truck it told him before he risked damaging it driving the 1/2 mile on gravel to the pavement before he likely would have noticed otherwise.

DIC gives a lot of info that the PCM has been monitoring for years (at least as far back as 99) but was only used by the tune, now that info that was already there is being displayed.

I love steering wheel controls, especially at night.

the non-painted mirror thing sounds like a whining match... by the higher line truck and you would have got it.

Push button 4X4 is a result of innovation such as Auto 4WD, which is a nice feature - maybe a Ford customer would have room to complain b/c they don't have that option.

I love my auto dim mirror, on my truck the compass and temp has moved to the dash, but I like that info too. I travel a good bit, the 3 1/2 hr ride to my hunting camp it's interesting to see the change in temp. and when on the property the gravel road is quite twisty, it's nice to have my bearings especially at night at a glance.

I have the 10 way power seats... I like it way better than the 2 way adjustable manual seats ;
