I'm not going to read the full article on my phone but I'll be interested to see what factors allowed such a point gap between the Chevy and GMC. Not at all surprised Ford won, the old lead editor for that site left for a position at Ford and they've been gushing praise for them ever since.

One thing I did like was how the Chevy out performed the eco boost in gas mileage!

GM AUTHORITY had this to say...

"The GM trucks that PUTC used were not the ones with the Max Trailering Package, featuring 3.73 rear axle ratio. This means that they were not rated at the class-leading 11,500 pound max-tow rating, or the 2,007 pound max-payload rating with the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8. Why didn’t they? Because the option won’t be available until Q4 2013. Had PUTC had waited until then, chances are the results would have been quite different."

Still confused like other comments how two trucks virtually identical can have different results?

Sixty pounds made that much of a difference? BS. I don't know what they did but more likely one truck was either a ringer or not 100%.

No that is like the Superbowl loser saying: "Had we already signed next years draft pick we would have won this Superbowl."

I agree that it is a weak argument.

Would also think the past couple weeks somewhere inside GM someone is getting their butt chewed.

I remember the interview where one of the R&D guys said on video that they had both the fuel mileage lead

& better power towing etc. Regardless, given the time they had to work out the details over the years, most

any review should have been deciding whether the Chevrolet or GMC is the better buy well ahead of the competition.

It is what it is.

Oh & mods, probably need to merge these threads...Thanks.

In GMs defense the pickups submitted were not set up as well as some of the other top performers. A 5.3 with 3.73 gears would have been a lot better. A 6.2 with 3.73 gears would be great. What I'm most irritated about is the lackluster braking. Soooo ridiculous that this is best they can do with all the time spent on redesign.

Trucks sent by each manufacturer were up to them.

Basic criteria was a price point....$45k and Screw I believe.

If the best models are not available till fall not much they can do about it.

I do find it hard to believe that GM couldnt find one max tow 5.3L to use...

Couple things are clear tho...

The Ecoboost is a great engine

The 8 speed in the Ram does make a difference

And the 5.3L is competition for the Ford 5.0L....not the Ecoboost

Interesting when the 6.2L gets out there,it should do very well

Eco boost is great when running. I do not mind a turbo, but not a fan of having two.

No offense to anyone that has one, but the maintenance would scare me.

The 8 speed is the BEST part of the Ram & they don't make it.

5.3 & 5.0 are a good match for comparison, but neither are top of the line bragging rights motors.

So kind of hard to get the marketing mileage out of it.... if that makes any sense?

Will be interested to see what happens when the 6.2 rolls out. BUT they need to make it available in ALL trucks of all cab sizes.

You can get a 395hp Hemi in a reg cab w/Rams express package. That sort of thing draws younger(& older alike) customers that may have otherwise passed. Even if they de-tune it down to 400 hp for a non top of the line Denali/High Country, they need to do it. Can you get a Ford reg cab with eco boost or do they stop with the 5.0?

There comes a point where the horsepower wars on 1/2 ton trucks is going to be pointless. In this day and age it is all about fuel economy, if they want to keep selling trucks. They are already building very capable trucks that can handle the maximum strain possible on the current chassis.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
