Anybody Have Magnaflow Duals?

I've done some research on which dual exhaust I want on my Suburban. I've seen some "hp increase numbers" and I've listen to dozens of video clips on youtube. I've decided that for the sound I want, I'm going to go with Magnaflow. I want an agressive sound, mainly at higher rpms, not so loud that my wife can hear it inside the house every time I remote start my truck in the mornings. From what I've heard on youtube, the magnaflow has a very slight growl at idle then roars when the throttle is opened up. I also like that it has more of a "performance truck " sound than flowmaster. But I just have one problem, there are no magnaflow dealers in my area. The one shop that did sell them shut done, a few others said they can order one for me if I let them know which one I want. (I could do the same thing from my living room on my computer) so basically what I'm asking is: Has anyone run magnaflow duals and did you use a single inlet/dual outlet muffler? What part number/model number muffler did you go with? I want to run custom duals straight out the back under my rear bumper with the wide rectangular camaro f-body style stainless tips. (about a 8-10" widex1.5-2" high rectangular tip)

I know Punmax has Magnaflow on his Vmax, maybe PM him.

Otherwise, my buddy just put Magnaflow on his '05 Yukon. It sounds damn good, however, I'm not too sure what the p/n is on that muffler. If you want I can ask him.

I have a Magnaflow dual exhaust on my truck and I like it a lot. It is a bit louder in the winter with exteme cold but, isn't obnoxiously loud. After it is warmed up you can barely hear it at idle but, screams at WOT. I don't know the exact part number but, it is the small one with single in, dual exit.

Was it a kit you bought, or just the muffler and had it custom mounted? Did you buy it froma shop or online? I think I'm gonna just buy a single inlet/dual outlet muffler online and let a local shop put it on. I've looked at summit and jegs, both have one around 90 bucks. Does that sound right? And I'm not too worried about extreme cold weather, it seldom gets below 30degreez here in Louisiana. All hell breaks loose when it gets below freezing down here, lol. They shut down schools, close the interstate and all bridges, etc.

I'm trying to get this done soon before my wife spends all the tax return money, lol. I told her all I want is duals and a new pistol, she can have the rest. I already got my SpringfieldXD 45cal picked out as well.

I bought the complete kit from a local GMC dealership. I was looking for a single out, reat side exit; however they were running a ridiculous sale on the duals for (something like $479, msrp is $762) so I couldn't resist the price. I was hesitant about the duals at first, but I'n glad I got them. The coldest it got here this winter was around -13 F, which when I started the truck it had a loud rumble which disapates rather quickly once the truck warmed up.

The kit you got from the dealer, is that a single inlet/dual outlet muffler? I cant find a kit for a Suburban even online. All I see is kits for trucks and tahoes, and I know the Suburban is quite a bit longer than a Tahoe. Thats why I was assuming I'd have to get just the muffler and get it custom mounted. Plus the fact that no kit is gonna have the camaro tips that I want. So I guess I just need to get a single inlet/dual outlet magnaflow muffler.

Here's the break down for you on the four mufflers you should be considering:

5"X8" case size

part # 12198: 14" long

part # 12288: 18" long

part # 12388: 24" long

5"X11" case size

part # 12588: 22" long

the magnaflow catback dual exhaust kits use the 5"X8", 18" long mufflers. the 24" long muffler will be slightly quieter. while the 14" long muffler will be slightly louder.

the 5"X11" case size should be comparable to the 24" long case, as it's slightly wider but 2" shorter.

Personally I replaced my stock muffler with the 5"X11" single inlet/outlet magnaflow and I like the sound really well. hope some of this helps. good luck and post a sound clip whenever it's done :D

It was just a muffler and a custom job. I'm not sure on all the details because my wife got it for me as a Christmas present. I'm pretty happy with it so far though.

THANKS!!! Thats just the information I was looking for. I think I'm gonna end up going with the 18" long one. I just googled those part numbers and found several other truck forum sites with others using magnaflow mufflers. Seems most others used the 12288 as well. I also read one guy say "you can barely hear it below 2000rpm, but it will GROWL any faster than that". Thats just what I'm looking for, not too loud at adle, but the beast comes alive when you hit the gas pedal. My decision is made, I'm goin with the 12288 Magnaflow muffler. Seems the best deal is from summit racing and they also have free shipping. I'll get my muffler and get the tips I want, then find a competent shop to install it. :D

ScottieBoy,

I'm running the 12588 with custom pipes out the back (still need to get a pic) and it's really nice. I bought the muffler only from Ebay for $90 with free shipping. If you haven't ordered yet CHECK EBAY! There are a few stores on there that carry almost everything magnaflow makes and it is less than 50% of the MSRP. A few even have the ability to do Best Offer which is how I got mine for 90 bucks for a brand new Stainless Steel muffler. :(

I did look on Ebay, and every one I found was the same price(within a dollar or two) as Summit racing. For the same exact price, I'd rather deal with summit as I've done business with them many times before and never had any problems.

I used to have a flowmaster catback on mine, part # 15754 and it sounded real nice, Had it for about a year, just wasnt loud enough for me. Specs on the muffler were 5 x 8 x 18 in. Muffler, 3 in. Single in/2.5 in Dual out

hey ScottieBoy, did you get to buy and install the 12288 Magnaflow muffler yet? if you did, how's it doing so far? I wanted to asked cause you see, I have the magnaflow 12288 just installed and I love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty (the salt on the roads here in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here magnaflow 12588, or you can try one of the vendors here, they are always running sales/specials. either way its a great system and very easy to install. :D:D what are your first impressions so far? thanks in advance.

On my 2000 suburban the entire exhaust system was fine so I just had a single in and single out Magnaflow put in place of the stock muffler...

so I used all the stock pieces with a new muffler welded in place along with a nice SS 3.5" exhaust tip.

Sounds nice around 2200-2500 RPMs...

not obnoxious in the truck during travel.

so my entire exhaust is now 3" in 3" out...just like the single kits they sell..
