Will I Have To Regear My Truck

Im thinking about either going with the rough country 5 inch lift and 33 inch tires or the rc 7.5 inch lift and 35 inch tires. If i go with the 35 inch tires would i have to regear the rear end? The truck currently has 3.73 in the rear. thanks

No. It's not necessary but it does help to bring back some of the driveability of truck and will help you get back a couple of precious mpg's. It will also help to lessen the strain being put on the transmission, etc. I plan on regearing somewhere down the line, but it's not a priority. I drive like an old man anyway so it doesn't bother me if the truck is not as quick as it once was.

I lifted mine and run 35's. At 70 on the highway it was in and out of OD on the smallest incline. If you lift it gear it

Thanks for the link and the info guys. I also drive like an old man. I do alot of driving on the interstate though. I mainly want the lift to get some more ground clearence I hunt alot here in florida. Im surely no mudder but would like to have a little more confidence when having to go through some sloppy stuff in the swamps arround here when its been a wet year. I tend to get pretty nervous with the stock ride height and tires it really scares me that ill get stuck in the middle of no where ha ha.

If you re-gear remember to do both diffs (assuming you're a 4WD). Regearing will also help you off-road...if you're crawling thru areas it will give you a better overall ratio, thus more "torque" down to the ground...

I have 35's and 3.73's. It is def a little slower off the line, but that's life. I do have some 4.88's, just haven't had them installed yet. I usually drive slower, but once in a while I will get on it, but never from a stop. Off-road, I am still careful, always in 4hi. I say this b/c as of a few weeks ago, it seems my tranny is slipping. Coming from a stop, then getting on the gas, when it switches to 2nd I feel a "skip" or slippage. Under normal acceleration, I do not notice it. Just something to take into consideration. I only have 20,000 on the truck. Could be nothing, but could also be a reason to re-gear ASAP after adding additional rotating mass. I am going to let it go for now as bringing in to the dealer will probably be a waste of time. I plan on getting my gears and Trutrac in by spring. If the tranny blows, I will be upgrading to something a little beefier.

So how can one confirm what gears they have? I have to admit it wasn't something I cared about at the time when I purchased. RPM at 65m/hr? or vin number check?

Jman it stinks your tranny is slippin already. Im off road during hunting season and thats about it. It gets pretty sloppy at times but thats life in the swamps of fl. Im thinking when i lift ill go with the 4.56 gears Ill have both the front and rear to do. But then again 33s with the rc 5 inch lift would be fine for me then i wouldnt need to regear seeing how Im already running 265-70-17 so to go to 33s its not that big a diffrence tire wise.
