B33tl3 Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 On my way home yesterday I was coming up to a curve doing 40 and the car coming the other way going way too fast for conditions decided it wanted my lane. I wasn’t able to get out of his way in time. They hit me head on them spun around and hit the bed of the truck too. They did have insurance but now I have that fight. The truck is a 2002 and was pristine, not a scratch. I was going to pay it off next week. Isn’t that always the case. Good news is I didn't make it to the gas station yet. Any tips on how to deal with insurance?
bdeboer Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I hope everyone made it out of there safely. Earlier this summer here in Ohio when I had a wreck that was the other guy's fault, I contacted my local insurance agent with the other party's information. They contacted his insurance company, who contacted me within 24 hours. Also do not settle on the medical end until you're sure the bumps and bruises etc. are out.
67ChevyRedneck Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Man after seeing that, it looks like truck-1, car -0 ! Glad your OK! With fuel being what it is, are you going to look for another truck or go for a car? (if the truck ends up being "totaled")
bdeboer Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Another thing is if you know someone who manages a local body shop they may know who to talk to with the other guys insurance.
B33tl3 Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 Everyone made it out okay. They took ther driver and passanger of the car to the hospital to be checked out. I ahve informaed my insurance company and they are suppsoed to get back to be today. They said it will take 3-4 days to get the truck appraised. I asked about my wheels, tires and hard tonneau cover and was told all of that was covered. We will see. I will get another GM truck.

pwall Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Glad to hear you're ok. Looking at the pictures of your truck and the other guy's car....another reason to drive a truck! ;)
Norseman Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Man, with a hit like that go see a doctor to get checked out!! Plus if the fight with the other insurance company gets bad it will help if lawyers need to get involved.
OnyxMAX Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 you shouldn't have to deal with their insurance. your insurance should pay off your truck and pay you the extra up to the value in the bluebook or whatever they use. then they will go after the other company to get their money back. only time you should have to deal is if you sue them for damages or they sue you. you should do that if their is any medical.

They told me to contact the other drivers insurance and go throught them. If they wouldn't make good Allstate would give me the money then go after the other insurance company. If Allstate has to get envolved they will charge me my deductable. That sounds wrong to me but I will cross that bridge when I get too it.

Unfortunately a lot of insurance companies get lazy and expect their clients to do their own work. Not sure how they work things in your state, but if its fixable...know that it is your right to get it fixed wherever you choose, regardless of what yours or their insurance says. They will try to lowball you into going to the cheapest place. Take it to where you prefer to do business. By your description of the accident, doesnt sound like you should have to fight at all. Seems pretty straightforward to me. Make sure you get a police report, and that it is filled out correctly and in detail. With that on your side, you shouldn't really have to do much else. Good luck.

mountain_man Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Just a fyi - Keep a close eye on Allstate. Thru my personal experience (and others as well), Allstate is lousy on claims and have needed to pursue legal action when dealing with Allstate. Have had Amica for several years since and one claim (teenage son) handled professionally without any hassles.
OnyxMAX Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 might as well lawer up. it's gonna get nasty, sound like your insurance has allready talked to the other party and decided you were partialy at fault. thats what happens when they start talking about getting it yourself. either that or they don't care
