Steering Wheel Controls

Hi,

I'm trying to replace my steering wheel controls for the DIC, specifically the two on the bottom of the wheel.

I have an '05 GMC Sierra, 3500 SLT 4x4

I've managed to get one of the controls out, but I'm stumped as to how to plug in the new one, as there's not enough slack in the wiring to allow me to plug in the connector.

I'm guessing I may have to remove the center of the wheel, where the horn and airbag is, but am unsure of how it is removed. I can feel two holes on each side of the center of the wheel, is this an access to remove the wheel center? I am replacing the two bottom controls because the lights are not functioning, in hindsight I should have left them alone and lived with no lights.

Thanks for your help

kev/ use a small drill bit, or punch, and press in on those two holes, that will release the airbag. handle carefully, and you'll se the connectors behind it. Google "autowoods" He has an entire write up on the procedure. Easy job!

that is good advise ,however,as a gmtech ,I have found the flat rate trick of using a hook pick to keep the switch connector out far enough to push & plug in the new switch, works great,I took the steering wheel off only once then looked for the cheat, you have probably already gone ahead and have done it properly,g'night.

Is there a light bulb behind the piece? I dont want to pull it all apart to find out what lightbulb I will need if there is one. If not, I can just order a new button for $20
