I`m waiting for my license in the mail and know alot of you guys are into guns and such, figured I`d ask your opinions on a good starter pistol in 9mm (most affordable centerfire ammo) I`ve been into alot of stores but can`t handle any of them till i hold my card.

Just want something easily mantainable, reliable and safe (more that one saftey) oh and preferably under 1k with a second mag.

Its tough to shop for handguns without actually handling them but I`m kinda liking the SR9 from ruger, miltiple safetys and decent looks, and its affordable aswell, although a bit scarce. Not really thinking I`m a glock fan...(why so ugly?) and the guy at the store sure had a hard on for his berettas! lol

Ruger, Beretta they're both good guns, you really need to hold a few different ones before you buy. They are not one size fit all, good luck, and congrats on the license.

Ruger is a mid pack builder when it comes to pistols.

I'd look at Kimber. Really good workmanship for the price. STI builds incredible stuff but might be out of your price range of $1000.00.

Glock is a good firearm if you like composite pistolas. I have a 17 Long Slide that I like.

yeah i guess i can suck up what I say about the glock appearance, I posted this topic on a candadian gun nutz forum and there is strong support for the glock 17, especially for a polymer framed unit. apparentley is a good first gun, I am goin to register at my local range and see if anyone is willing to alow me some time with their pistols, once i get my license in-hand that is...

WOW. Being way down here in Texas it is hard for me to envision all of that licensing stuff. Hell I can even legally carry mine in my truck.

I think the Glock might make you a good pistol. Make sure you handle one first though. Some folks don't like the wide grip. They are not the prettiest but they are very reliable and not too expensive.

Here is a Kimber assortment. Sweet pistols if you get the chance to shoot one.

Yea there is quite a few hoops to jump through, and asking to be able to carry concealed is like asking for the moon, but i recentley heard a friend of my brother was able to get licensed to carry concealed, not sure what he had to go through to get it... and talk about gun restrictions! restricted, non-restricted, prohibited...theres alot of things a gun owner has to be aware of in these neck of the woods...

That sucks man. A responsible gun owner is actually a huge asset to the community in my book.

Around here it's the NON gun owners that better be aware! Not sure how many we have in Texas but I'm sure it FAR exceeds the 25 million or so people who live here.

Accuratized. :P

A SR9 is a great pistol for the money. You already said you like the looks of it. I have one, and it's one of the best 9mm's I have owned.

I have also heard good about the Springfield XD-40, you should look at those to.

Good luck with your decision!

NAH. I only have a few.

However... guns are like gold. They never go down in value.
