What Do You Use To Cut Your Grass?

Just wondering what you all use to cut your lawns. Right now im using a 21" pushmower and its KILLING me. I'm very very picky about my lawns and my trimming, so i spend a good half hour weed wacking alone...

I only have just under half an acre.. so its not a lot of grass, but it's a little much for a 21" pushmower. The next step up is a $1300 33" walk behind, but I don't think a 33" is a big enough jump for $1300, that's $1000 more than my 21". (if it was $700-$800 id be all over it).

So then we look at zero turns.... cheapest one is a twin blade 42" 19HP Toro, but the thing even LOOKS cheasy and costs $2500. For $500 more, we could get the Triple blade 50" Cub Cadet (Model 17AI2ACP756 at home depot) which is well worth the extra cost IMO.

So although the 50" is probably overkill in terms of size, it doesn't make sense to spend $1300 on a 33" walk behind or $2500 on a piece of junk....

What are you guys using??

(PS: This is a trade-off... the mower is one of the things i get to purchase after i sell my bike  )

Craigs list, Ebay, WeAreCentral Pa, Pennswoods.net are all good sites for finding GOOD used equipment. I got a nice new/used 42" cut riding tractor for $600. It was as close as you can get to new. Guy used it 1 season and moved.

I added a bagger to it and just love the results. I do have just over an acre to cut but it makes the job very easy.

Your gonna find that Zero turn is going to cost you some money whether it's new or used... they are just that popular.

Yeah I know. But i'm very particular about my lawn and i like having my "lines"... A 48" ride on mower would take me more time to cut than my 21" push mower because of that. The only worthwhile investment for me would be a zero turn.

Why do you say that, I make nice lines in my hard  What makes you think you can't make lines :dunno:

Lol just a lot of K turns. I used to make great lines cutting my dads yard, but he had a little over an acre.... So a K turn at each end didn't seem like a big deal.

I have about 1.5 acres to cut. Currently I'm using a Husqvarna GTH2654. Its a 26 hp with a 54 inch cut. It has the foot control for forward and backward. The really nice thing about it is the front wheels turn almost 90°. Combined with the foot controls it makes mowing around trees and bushes very easy.

So i get home from work today.... and my dad just dropped off a lawnmower he said he got off of Ebay for cheap.

It's a 42" Husqvarna YTH2042... has a 20HP Briggs and cut my front lawn in no time.

I did have to spend about 2 minutes to disable the reverse cutoff safety; the engine would shut down if you tried going in reverse with the blades on... lol that didn't last long :dunno:

This'll definitely get me through a few seasons

NICE. I cut bout 1 1/2 acres every other w/end at the cottage...THIS would be sweet.I have 2 riders,1989 John Deere(Don't ask the model) and a 2002 Dohn Deere LTR 180.But THIS would be SWEET to add to the collection.

We have 1.5 acres here and I mow my father-in-laws 4.5 acres. I have an ExMark Lazer Z HP 48" cut. This thing rocks.
