My Dad confused retirement with stopping work. He tried his understanding of retirement for a year and then went back to "work". My earlier mention of looking at job ads was solely as a way to purchase unneeded toys. Unlike my Dad, I am working too much to find the time to work! If retirement for you is too distant to be of concern, then you need to rethink because it comes up fast and it is real. Like most things, preparation is key. Just to give you some "time" context, yesterday my wife and I found ourselves looking for candles for a virtual birthday cake to honour my youngest child's 40th Birthday. The candles we have for this occasion said "40" and were "recently" on my cake! Unfortunately, this involved a trip to the depths of our crawl space which required more effort than needed. Just like I had to go to Home Depot to buy two 1/4' x 1/2" bolts, when I know I have a bunch somewhere, I stopped in at the Dollar store to buy a "40" candle! Which reminds me of one other pre retirement tip: Be very discriminating when saving treasures that you may need someday!2 points

Stuff to think about. The API limit for NOACK for SN, SP+ and SP is 15%. The DEXOS 1 Gen 2 limit is 13% The DEXOS 1 Gen 3 limit is 12.5% NOACK is a thing because 'vaporized oil' transported via the PCV system is most of what accumulates on a GDI motors intake valves. The lower the NOACK the lower the valve deposits. Most 5W30 DEXOS licensed 5W30 oils will run around 10%. A few will crowd the upper limit. One, Pennzoil Ultra taps out at 7%. Mobil 1 at 8.5%. Good to know if you run a 4.3 LV1 or LV3. Problem is your 5.3/6.2 is calling for a 0W20 and as a whole PQIA says they average 12.5%! The lower the API classification the higher the average NOACK. The lower the number preceding the W drives it even higher. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/mobil-1-ep-vs-pennzoil-platinum-0w-20-noack.299056/page-4 You will find a list at this link above. Not all of these oils are DEXOS 1 Gen 2 licensed but on a whole note that those that are run 10-13%. That leaves two groups outstanding. First those so high as to not be licensed. Second those with numbers better than those obtaining a license: AMSOIL 0W20 NOACK 8.5% / HTHS 2.67 Red Line 0W20 NOACK 9.0% / HTHS 2.9 MPT 30K 0W20 NOACK 8.8% / HTHS 3.2 Bonus material: In addition the two in bold above have a HTHS viscosity high enough to qualify as a *W30 class oil. That's the number important to ring wear. About 40% of a motors friction comes from the rings so HTHS has become a hot button for OEMS. Problem is low HTHS numbers also increase ring wear. Also camshaft and rod bearing wear. It is a straight up trade. Wear for fuel efficiency. EP additives will only help so much. If additives were the end all be all then we would run additives in water instead of oil. https://www.q8oils.com/automotive/low-hths-oils/1 point

Got the sleeve installed yesterday, doesn’t appear to be leaking but have to take care of an oil pan leak, after that I will know for sure.1 point

The original spare tire size for your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 is P265/70R17 113H1 point

Everybody gets a cheap spare on a steel wheel - don't feel special. For as much as it's used, I'm OK with that.1 point

My 2020 Silverado does not have excessive oil usage at all. I’ve had it a year and a half and it remains full from oil change to oil change. I like my 2.7T.1 point

It would be helpful to know some more specifics, such as mileage on your truck and how much oil consumption you're referring to as being excessive (quart per thousand miles of driving for example), plus any additional background info that may or may not be relevant such as this has been an issue since owning the truck, or maybe has become an issue only recently after an oil change, etc.1 point

Not too loud. Definitely not as loud as a pure mud tire, but just slightly louder than BFG KO2s. They may quiet down after a few miles to break them in. I will say they have a stiff sidewall. Much harder feel going over speed bumps at 33 psi. Could be that my Wranglers were wore out too.1 point

I have never once went to a gas station and wondered if they sell top tier gasoline. I will fill up my truck anywhere expect the ghetto because I don't feel like being robbed at gun point.1 point

May 2021 Fuel Report 2669 miles on 96.135 gallon of fuel = 27.76 mpg. I did not count the tanks run on E-85 in this months report. This is on par with the life time average, 27.65 mpg. Year to date 2021 is 27.33 mpg. This May has been rough. Crazy winds. Cold one day, cooking the next. Rain. Still March as a whole historically has been 27.51 mpg so....still rising. Until I pulled up this history my gut told me it was much worse. Glad I keep records.1 point

Sold my 2003 SD QS I had for 16 years and decided on this used 2019 LTZ in Northsky Blue Metallic/Gideon Very Dark Atmosphere, with 7K on the odometer. Been awhile since I had my favorite color and the interior color I took a liking to. Previous owner installed the Kooks LT headers/Y pipe and had ordered the Brembo 6-piston package with the truck. Hoping to find a good tuning option to the HP Tuner option and SS lines for the brakes, but have installed the S&B CAI. Quick pics1 point

Installed the factory LED taillights. I already had the Harness Dr. adapter harness because I got scammed on a set of these lights months ago. I found a set locally for $150 because the passenger side one had been hit. Hooked them up and ended up finding a right side one on eBay for $235. I’m loving how they look!1 point

GM released new gear oil specifications for the late 2020 and 2021 model year pickups that now call for DEXRON Low Viscosity 75W-85 gear oil (GM part #19365814) and GM Synthetic Gear Oil (part #19300457 meeting GM Spec. 9986375).1 point

Dad put off retirement for about 5 years believing he would be bored. He's now in his 90's and crazy active. He has said that he has no idea how he had time for a job. The homestead is 24/7/365 non stop work. There is plenty to do...always.1 point

Our 2021 Pacifica reads the texts via Bluetooth. It’s annoying as hell. I turned it off. Try being on a family iMessage thread with your smart ass brothers while driving. It will make you want to ram into something with all the senseless notifications.1 point

I do not think there are more issues with Vehicles then in the past. I actually think they are more reliable. The difference is Everyone has the internet, Even in the palm of there hand . Well even like you and I here reading this thread of yet another Failure. What we do not hear thou is all the 100s of thousands of Happy Truck owners who have absolutely no Problems are issues . I am glad that people do get online and post about there issues and how how the Stealerships deal with them. It helps everyone in the long run. With the above said. Yeah asking for a buyback because of a Repairable issues that is Not as common as what people might think. I will bite my tongue on that one. I Would be a mad Woman if my Truck broke with a major issue. But only if it was not repaired Properly and in a timely manner .. This is Just my Opinion. As far as if the repaired engine will last.. Its Mechanical if the broken parts and put back to spec it will be good as or better then new.1 point

By my calculations, my 2015 Silverado would have about 90K, had it not gotten totaled 2 years ago. My 2018 currently has about 25K, and is parked until my wife and daughter (both) return to work, minus the occasional Home Depot and/or Lowe's runs. Been putting the little bit of fuel savings towards some of our small bills, trying to get out of debt (AGAIN! We were down to vehicles & house payments, until.....the wreck ruined it for us).1 point

There's a guy on Ebay that sells precut kits. I did it on my 2019 rst. It's a pain. And imperfections are very noticeable. I got mine good enough and got much better at it towards the end but there are several pieces I'll probably rebuy and redo. Definitely worth $800-$1000 for a professional install.1 point
