Getting old can be tough but it certainly beats the alternative. Personally, I found my 60's a little frustrating because I felt too young to be old but too old to be young. I found hitting 70 gave me official senior status with full bragging rights! I am learning the value of sharing age related struggles with others. There are many people in your reach who have tips and tricks that will eliminate some of the new obstacles you will face. We all have seen our older relatives with their walkers, Velcro shoe ties, and puffy pants. A lot of these observations are without context. Some of these items may be necessary and some avoidable. Ask others with experience before adopting the stereotypical senior helpers. You may think this stuff is obvious, but I have a 3 year old $500. unused walker in my closet. I thought I was being proactive and didn't anticipate my future needs correctly. This weekend I just about paid $1k for a raised seat for my Harley Freewheeler. It was painful to get off my trike due to the osteoarthritis in my knees and shoulders. While making inquiries about a higher seat, a more senior rider with similar issues told me his physiotherapist taught him how to get off his trike pain free. It is a ridiculously simple technique but works like a cham. (You simply slide yourself to the back of the seat and lift your leg over in front of you.) Last week my wife was researching walk-in bathtubs for me because I like having a bath. I don't like her idea. I found a clamp on grab handle at my local Rona and now find getting in and out of the tub much easier. Contrary to what seems obvious., it is not the strength of the handle, it is the way it directs me is the most value. Seniors need to work smarter as we can't always work harder! Share something here that you've discovered or question about the "joys" of getting old!2 points

Going on tip and needed bar. I searched but could only find the Putco brackets and light bar for 2019+ Sierra, or use the 3.0 lower grill with a 20” bar. I liked the way the 3.0 grill looked and ease of install so may do that next. Here is a link of another’s install: After Reading were others were able to install 30” I ordered the RC 30” dual row (spot and flood) black series. After YouTubing how to remove front grill, I noticed the bumper mount bolts seemed like a good and sturdy mount point. I was able to make my own mounts out of some flat aluminum I had laying around and some galvanized bolts (used factory bumper bolts as base mounts). Removed 2 rows of air shutter slats to make room (do not cut…just bend and they pop out and save for later incase need them). Grill is about 1/2 inch from the light bar and grill (the close up picture shows that). The RC switch had an LED red light that stayed on all the time so I also used a 4-wire push button from Amazon and wired it into the dash where AUX switches usually go. I connected the switches back light wire to the BCM X7 #9 so it will dim with dash settings. I will be replacing the adjuster allen bolts with regular hex heads… making adjustments to the light bar aim is about impossible through the grill with allen bolts. If I just have regular hex bolts, I can use a wrench or a quarter inch ratchet super easy. So now have Bambi mode (all lights) and the light bar all covert. Pics below. Hopes this helps someone. pics are Brights (all lights on high), Brights and Light Bar, only Light Bar2 points

You'll be fine. A bit more sidewall with the higher load range. I still wonder if people saying the E range tires will ride terrible are running them at 80psi or something? I have mine at 35psi and even with the Bilsteins the truck rides firm but not hard. It's not like 12" lift leaf springs or anything.2 points

Like others on here I was driving along the interstate in the fast lane in fairly heavy traffic. All of a sudden i had no power. Just I had turned the engine off. My dash flashed something about shifting to neutral and restarting the engine. Luckily I was able to make it over ti the right emergency lane before getting hit in the rear. I had it towed to the dealer and they told me the engine was locked up. It is a 2019 and only has 52K miles on it. Of course the warranty expired 6 months ago. The dealer told me it is going to cost $13,000 to get it replaced. I keep reading story after story about these engine failures. There really needs to be a recall on these engines before someone gets hurt or killed. I have filed a complaint with the NHSTA and I am also going ro file a complaint with consumer reports. I'm hoping that if enough of us complain GM will have to issue a recall on these engines. So if you have had or have this happen please file a complaint.1 point

Below is what I have done with my Silverado and I now have a sound system I truly enjoy listening to and it sounds awesome. 2023 Silverado High Country Bose factory system Dash Speakers: Pioneer TS-A709 Front Door Speakers: JBL Club 64CSQ (Did not use tweeters) Metra 82-3005 Speaker Mounting Brackets (free from Crutchfield) Rear Door Speakers: JBL Club 64SQ Scosche SAGMHR-634 Speaker Mounting Brackets (free from Crutchfield) Amplifier: JBL DSP4086 (8-channel DSP configurable amplifier) 40 watts RMS x 8 at 4 ohms 60 watts RMS x 8 at 2 ohms Sub-Woofer: JBL BassPro Nano (6" x 8" Powered Sub-woofer) 100 watts RMS Harness (For tapping into Bose factory amplifier without cutting wires): AIS - Audio Integration Solutions ([email protected]) Bose factory amplifier loads: AudioControl AC-LGD 60 Power Harness: Crutchfield CK8 (8-Ga power wiring kit with inline fusing) I installed the JBL amplifier in the Middle compartment of the GM rear under seat storage (GM option that was on my Silverado)......I could not find a good spot on the back wall of the cab without requiring some sort of fabricated bracket and I was also concerned about the excessive heat back there. The rear seat -back has a ton of foam and will trap a lot of heat. I installed the JBL Nano sub under the drivers seat......it does not fit all the way due to ductwork and seat harnesses, but it fits deep enough to not cause issues with passengers feet. Fine tuning the JBL amp was cool and fun doing it through an application on a laptop.......I dialed it in to my taste and it sounds fantastic. The JBL sub adds a great bass punch to the music......it won't rattle the rust off a vehicle but that's not what I was looking for........it's perfect amount of tight bass IMHO. A remote bass adjustment lets you dial in the amount of bass boost. The OEM sub was left attached and operational.......this was recommended by many (AIS also) to not cause issues with the Bose factory amplifier having issues if it's disconnected. Super happy with the results......sounds sweet. Pics below.....It starts out neat and by the timeI was done it's not as organized as I'd like, but it works well and is covered with the cargo cover, so it works for me.1 point

It's been a whole year since getting the 24 Sierra and hooking up with all you folks at the time. WOndering when the hell, if ever, could we, ever buy a damn truck. But I guess, it all works out. It's been all good for me, hope it's been tolerable for all the rest. My sales rep called, we talked a while she said I've almost got it work out so we need to place an order in case it takes 2 years again. I reminded her it wasn't that bad, only 19 months, 2 extra doors, not a Chevy and not the red I wanted. Other than that it was perfect! HAHA! ... But the 24' she's been good so far. It lovingly accepts all the fuel offered up, thirstily asking for more. But damn, what a ride for a 2500, it's impressive. I got a lot of great advice from you all, and it meant a lot. Like the brakes. Kinda sucked at first but sure enough, 1500/2000 miles absolutely, stops with authority. Power has improved, not so much the consumption. I see there's a recall on the tailgate latch - kind of knew that was coming. I added a cover. Going on a trip to the east costs to bring back a cabinet in couple weeks. I do have a question! ... What ya think about the steering? Sometimes, I feel like the steering is a little heavy.... Maybe I need to play with the air? bout the only thing I can do. It's heavier than my 16' was I really feel. Other than that, best to all!1 point

I need to correct my post from yesterday about the O2 sensors from Rockauto. I was wrong. The sensors I received were in fact GM sensors. I went to a local Chevy dealer to purchase the OEM sensors directly from them and learned that they too have Denso printed on the body of the sensor. The parts manager there got me straightened out on this. Denso is making O2 sensors for GM currently. The bank one sensor I removed yesterday has Denso printed on it and it is the O2 sensor that came with the vehicle when new. Denso does make a sensor of its own that they market for a much lower price and is not very user-friendly with GM ECMs. The OEM sensor will have the 8-digit GM part number at the top of the sensor housing and the word Denso directly below. The regular Denso sensor will not have the GM part number on it. So, bottom line, Rockauto sent me the correct sensors after all.1 point

I had a 20 and 22 LT 2500 and now a high country.....the digital varaible assist makes noticeable difference on HD trucks....especially in the slow stuff you dont hear about it much, but makes the 2500 steer almost like a 15001 point

This ^^^^ Im 35-38 psi on my E's and its fine. And its nice to be able to drop lower if getting into some snow or sand or get em up if towing. Ill take E's and sidewall over any other setup every time. 35x17's for the win though! Ha1 point

My LZ0 has 1,200 miles since November when I bought it. My previous LM2's that I've had, had considerable oil in the turbo outlet. Demon Works on YouTube has a video where he poured oil out of his charge air cooler. The design of the crankcase ventilation and having it routed back into the turbo and then the charge air cooler will condense the vapors back into a liquid, this collecting in the charge air cooler.1 point

Does it sound like it might be something in the dash? If you have a passenger, does it sound like it is coming from the driver's side and vice versa for you when you are driving? It might be a loose screw in the overhead compartment. I had something like this. Watch the video below to see how to fix it.1 point

I've read on other forums that a 33" overall diameter tire will fit. That is the largest that will fit in the spare tire location. These are all approximately a 33" overall diameter tire. 285/70/17 275/70/18 275/60/20 FYI - 17” wheel is the minimum that will clear the front brake calipers on 2007.5 - 2025 SUV and trucks. If you have the big brake kit (uncommon option) I believe 20” wheels minimum to clear the oversized front rotors that were offered as an option on RST trims.1 point

Good write up. I've had my truck since Jan 18, 2024. I thought the brakes needed a lot more pressure than my previous GMC 1500 trucks but after 4000 miles, they are lot better. I haven't noticed anything unusual about the steering. I try not to go to either extreme as I don't like the noise it makes. My truck weighs 8680 pounds, about 1000 over curb weight, with 2 passengers and the stuff I keep in the truck bed and under the rear seat. I set my tire pressure to 55 psi front and rear and changed the tire placard through the OBDII with an Autel TS508. No TPMS errors and Onstar stopped squawking. Truck rides pretty good for a 2500HD on and off road. Do you only have 3483 miles after a year?1 point

Hens Teeth There are darn few oils that will meet VW 504/507 (2020/2021), Porsche C30 AND API SN+/SP specs all at the same time. What does that mean? VW and Porsche have very high benchmarks for cleanliness and wear. API sets the bar for LSPI issues. Something the other two are less concerned with. Combine them and your motor will thank you. AMSOIL has one. Red Line has two. Mobil 1 has two. HPL has zero, Castrol one. AMSOIL Euro 0W30 Red Line Euro 0W30, 5W30 (recently reformulated for LSPI). Mobil 1 ESP 0W30, 5W30 Castrol Edge Euro 5W30 K IF LSPI isn't a concern and you don't need the SN+/SP low calcium qualifications that opens things up quite a bit. The list allows you to clear the bar but there is a pecking order. Mobil is the cheapest and most shear sensitive. Red Line the highest Polyol content and greatest solvency and the highest HTHS values. AMSOIL falls in between and has the highest TBN. I know little about the Castrol offering. There isn't a bad choice here just a difference in OCI determined by UOA for each unit. NOTHING stamped Dexos anything will outperform. Dexos has a different agenda. C.A.F.E., and getting you back to buy another 'designed to fail' spec.1 point

Pull an oil sample and have a GC fuel run on it plus 100 C viscosity. If vis is fine and fuel is low, then at these miles lacquered rings would be my next best bet. Rings don't just 'unseat'. They stick. But make sure it isn't viscosity break first.1 point

I too had a Dee Zee in my 2018 but as stated, they don’t list one for the 2024 HD so…… I purchased the GM mat ($160)with my reward points and after 6 months it’s functioning as advertised. I have a set of smaller tool boxes I carry when towing our travel trailer that fit between the wells so I do like the coverage in those areas.1 point

My 2020 has no E85 sensor so I run premium only either 91 or 92 depending on where I am at geographically. I am using a Pulsar so no auto off and on or cylinder deactivation is occuring. Oil changes always at 30%ish with the 0-20 Dexos I think the above poster with the fuel dilution idea may be onto something, but i am going to wait and see what the clowns at the circus come up with first. I expect a jerk off session from the Dealer and or GM but I am prepared for the battle. Truck is gorgeous, I have expelled the whole thing since it's first week and done exhaust and wheel and suspension upgrades to it blah blah so this sucks to have to deal with.1 point

PS when I picked up my truck originally it had like 6 or 10 miles on it but a large number of hours in comparison and I was already home so I did not think much about it. I found out later that Chevy new that they had some crappy issues and were having dealers put large fans in front of the trucks and run em at a high idle for X amount of time to see of they acted up. I will search for that information. Thanks for any and all input.1 point

Towed my landcruiser home across highway 2 from Kalispell MT straight from dealer, I do plenty of accellerating etc by babying I meant no abuse of the vehicle, I have not overloaded it, ran it up and down gravel roads, no potholes, no uber or bs like that. Took it to dealer and getting the Excessive oil consumption test documented, but I already know by checking my records that I am using twice of what is considered the excessive amount so will have to run their miles and see what they plan on doing. No idea what that may be as they are likely to inept to figure out where the oil is going. But will keep everyone posted.1 point

The only things age has done to me is slowed me down a bit. As far as the topper you could switch it out for a roll lock or even a soft top. So you could reach over the side. My father’s truck has a topper and roll out in its bed. That thing rattles. My father in law bought 4 vehicles between 85-92. The last one a year before he passed. He traveled a lot. I almost hate to say this but the easiest vehicle for just about everything is a minivan. Ours doesn’t get driven much though. I head for the avalanche, my wife heads towards her car. She can’t get in the avalanche without a ladder. And I have a hard time remembering to swing around and stand up to get out of her car. I one leg it like my truck. Ouch! That’s the nice thing about buying used you can have multiple vehicles. You don’t mention if your wife has a vehicle. Maybe you can compromise on that. As long as you can drive the truck I would keep it around. The only way my avalanche disappears would be for a better one.1 point

Yesterday I stood in line at the pharmacy behind a tall old gentleman who reminded me of my father-in-law. The receptionist asked this gentleman for his birthdate and it turns out he was 6 months younger than me. It's not that he looked any worse or better, but there are inconsistencies between how we see ourselves and our actual age. I remember the first time in recent history a young, good looking woman ran ahead to hold a door open for me. I am pretty sure it wasn't to check me over for potential date material!1 point

The 19+ GMC emblem is wider and shorter unfortunately. No I have not yet, I am going to also put a denali cluster and wire up my steering wheel controls at the same time, thats next on the list! The emblem shines very bright even through the tint, I am very happy with it! All back together!1 point

Unfortunately the dealer has to call Ally for approval and give Ally a diagnosis and estimated time to fix in order for a rental to be covered. GM dealers sell the Ally warranty. I don't believe I can work with Ally directly.0 points
