  1. Finally put the truck to work doing what I got it for. Went as well as I was expecting. 25' Chris Craft. Pushing 5000lbs before you count the gear and the 75 gallons of gas.

    Dogs, boats n things.
  3. Excellent follow-up. Interested to see what else you end up with. Considering an LED housing swap, but I could use that money for a new shotgun instead.
  4. Your post just triggered an old memory of an accident back when the charger was undergoing patrol car testing by the Michigan State Police at the Grattan Raceway near Grand Rapids. MSP does thorough patrol car testing of all manufacturers and publishes their review nation wide. They use GM proving grounds, M.I.S. Grattan and their own drive track. The testing troopers are academy drive track instructors and receive NASCAR training. During this accident, the driver launched the car into a turn and rolled the vehicle right in front of the Chrysler engineers. I later heard the break control module wasn't processing the driver input quick enough for the vehicle to react. Supposedly he went into a 45 mph turn at about 90 and reported the vehicle was not reacting to his braking. MSP suspended the vehicle from the program. Within a few weeks, Chrysler came up with a software update and the vehicle was put back into the program. This was at a time after Chevy had quit producing rear wheel drive cars and Ford was barely increasing any performance of the bland Crown Vic. and SUV's were entering the field.
  5. I figure it's just getting your specific setting figured, like mentioned above. I was chauffeuring with the truck for our rolling, high school graduation. The wife and daughter sitting in the bed of the truck in folding chairs during the parade through town. I was listening to mu tunes off Amazon, alone in the cab. The wife was texting pictures to family and her messages kept coming across, cutting out my music. I cancelled her phone from the menu. I use Android and she uses iPhone. It is irritating that you have to plug in to use other apps, like Waze or Google maps, etc. The price of these trucks and you still have to have loose wires dangling all around like a kids vehicle.
  6. Planning on a bumper build anyway. Is the forward end of the front wheel well, where trimming is usually needed? Planning on only staying in the 35 range for towing anyway, but not crazy about the stuffed look. Thinking about going with cooper's again.
  7. Sorry, not on a v-8, but had a 30 with a mandrel bent exhaust on my old 4.0 grand cherokee. It was too loud, so I sold the 40 and went to a 50. Nice sounding idle. Louder than stock, but not as obnoxious as the 40. That rolled pipe was probably better for any performance gain on that vehicle, than any difference from a 50 to 40.
  8. Is this the space invaders trim package? I guess retro is making a come back.
  9. I agree, just have to be vigilant. I was figuring those high mileage diesels would be more likely to have needed much of those components replaced in it's lifetime. Even a tranny or two. Should be able to tell or have paperwork. Otherwise walk away. Heck, how many snow birds are actually using the 4wd?
  10. Probably for the best. I had to buy custom out of town. Local dealer only had $65000 trucks (maybe 6?) and I was keeping the old one. After I signed, they only had one red one left and it was soon gone. Just noticed this week they finally got 2ore reds on the lot. Lots of chrome on them. This area has a lot of snowbirds. The dealer I went to had 2 other customs that sold within a week or 2 of mine. One of my bosses just bought a used 1500 and won't tell me what he paid for it.
  11. Looking at the factory pictures, it looked like a roll up or retractable might work if mounted over these, with a spacer up front to fill the gap with the cover being elevated. They look to angle inboard some, which could interfere with rolling the cover. Would definitely interfere with a folding cover, I would think.
  12. And are stickered in the door jam, as such. Thank you for a nice truck, Flint. If I would've read the 1500 trouble threads before shopping, I could've been driving a ram right now. No problems here, yet.
  13. Beautiful. Just needs a roll bar and KC's for that classic single cab look.
  14. I figured on something like that as well. I just wanted the hardware and fuses. If I have to, I'll wire them to battery power. I'm probably going to be running most of my accessories through a relay anyway. It'll pretty much be mostly lighting.
  15. I think the advantage of the diesel comes in the resale of higher mileage trucks. Reasonable mileage and the gasser will hold it's own. When you're pushing 200,000 or better, the gasser value is gonna drop way more dramatically than the diesel. You stand a better chance at much of the worn parts or problems having been taken care of in the deisels lifetime. No way I'd be looking at a gas engine with that many miles. Even with the vehicles I've taken good care of, it'll probably start wanting to puke sensor replacements, and other fuel related issues. I use to drive 40,000 miles a year, commuting. Even with timely oil changes and fresh tanks of gas, the engine oil is gonna smell like fuel when you get up there. That said, I bought a gasser. These days I live within biking, walking distance of my work. Most of my driving is going to be recreational with some boat towing. The extra couple of miles per gallon for higher prices diesel, will not pay off for me. This truck will tow the boat much better than a 1500, when I need it. But the gas mileage is already looking slightly better than when I bought it. 2500 CC w/ 6.6 gas.
  16. Looks real good. Just posted in another thread tht I intend on building my own similar to this. I plan on leaving a little.more room for standing on top of it to help reach into the engine compartment. I'm 6-1 and still feel like a dwarf around this thing. I also plan on a recessed receiver in the bottom, center. Not sure if I want a winch yet. Might just make a storage box and could add one later. Already got the upfitter switches for the lights and accessories. Also, any pictures of the mounting technique?
  17. That's the look I'll be going for when I build my bumper. It will also have receiver recessed into it so I can maneuver my boat easier in the back yard or other storage. On hold until I get some house projects out of the way first. Hoping I can get started before winter. Also plan to get a retrax tonna cover and build a rectangular tube light bar/roll bar.
  18. You looking into any fender flares yet? Waiting to see what is available before I do any mods.
  19. Anything to watch for pulling the panel, or does it come off nicely?
  20. Should be all you need to do. It'll help it track better as well.
  21. Is the top half over the hood supported well in these? Thinking of another, but the one I had years a go was only supported by two stick on dimples on the underside. On the freeway, it fleked enough to rub away the paint.
  22. The new 1500 front got me over the fence at looking for a new truck this year. Needed an HD though. The front profile of the 2500 was a little word at first, but didn't take long to grow on me. I loved the side profile, so that helped. Now I think it looks great and I get complimented for the truck all the time. To me, the GMC headlights look like a ford bumped a toyota. Sorry, father in law has a one time ford and I really don't like the ford front ends this year. The deal breaker for gmc though, is those wheel wells. No way. And then the dainty reflector in the molding? Nope.
  23. Pretty sure I read on here somewhere that you could add your truck as a device to your personal at&t plan and p probably end up with better service.
