Second Notch Stereo

Hi guys, my 2004 sierra came with a after market stereo when i bought it 3 mths ago, When i turn my ignition one notch my stereo does not work,when turned second notch, all my dash lights come on, and the stereo works. Isn't the stereo suppose to work after the first notch? Or is this wired wrong? Is there any harm in listening to the stereo with all the dash lights on?

That sounds like it's wired wrong.... I'd maybe take it to a stereo shop and have them take a peek at the wiring.

 

There isn't anything per-se wrong with listening to it with the truck in run, but you'll drain the battery much quicker that way since a lot more equipment is running in that position.
