Winter Tires...

Hello,

 

What brand/model do you recommend for winter tires? I live in Quebec City, where we get too much snow. I don't know if BFG are good for winter. Tire size I need: 265/70/R17 OR 265/65/R18

 

This is for a Silverado 2009 4x4 Extended cab

 

NOTE: I need to have the winter snow sign on each tires to be legal during winter time.

I live in northern minnesota and I have BFG ATKO's on my last truck and my current one. I think the work great on snow and ice. Haven't had any problems during the winter months. Hope this helps out.

2009 Silverado 4X4, what tires came on the truck from the factory? The Goodyear ATS's that came with the Z71/17" wheel package on mine chew snow just fine. My old truck was a 2wd but had the same Bridgestone AT's as used on the Z71/18" wheels. Those were also great in snow. The 18" wheels don't give you as many tire options so if you have a choice on wheels, might be better off with 17's.

I would look at Nokians, 'cause that is what I am most likely gonna buy!! Factory tires are a joke, and they have to be snows, not all seasons. (LAW)

No substitute for dedicated snow tires. I run Mastercraft MSRs on my truck for plowing snow.

Bridgestone Blizzak's (DM-Z2 Winter Dueller). That is what I have used for the past 12 years (obviously not the same set of tires!)

 

I run BFG All-Terrain tires in the summer and Blizzak's in the winter.

 

No comparing the two tires on ice. Yes the BFG has the winter snowflake rating, but for my money, I trust the Blizzaks over the BFG's.

Snow tires in August? Really? Jeez, it's too depressing to think about winter yet....

I've always been a big believer in Blizzaks. Just amazing in the snow.

I'm in North Dakota and can practically smell the snow coming already. We only had a few days of summer this year anyways.......

Based on how difficult it was to find 'winter' tires last year in parts of Quebec, best to shop early! ;)

We use Nokian LT tires on our trucks at work, they are the best, We also used Nokian Vativas as well. Nokian will be my next tire, if my Michelins ever wear out.

That's just depressing Pat! I'd like to at least get my truck before I'm dealing with snow. For the first year of snow on the Ontario side, should I be looking at winters as well, or will the stock towing tire with 4x4 do me right ?

I have only used and sold Blizzaks as snow tires they are get tires
