Bilstein Hd Shocks

The other day I received my new Bilstein shocks. They look and feel a lot heaftier than what's on the truck. I haven't really had the shocks off of my truck, but the little I messed with them, they seem to be constructed a lot better. In a couple of weeks I'll have them installed.

I just installed a set on my Tahoe tonight. I only did the fronts as I have a 2.5 rear drop kit coming from GroundForce tomorrow to level it out but even just swapping the fronts made an appreciable difference.

I had to remove these though.

The instructions aren't that great, so I just want to make sure. The way I have the bump stop caps are the way they are to be installed?

Debadging even the shocks? You're going to run out of things to debadge.

My OTC Strut Tamer is coming in the mail but this weekened I'm busy; the following weekend I should have them installed, then I'm going to get a new set of tires to replace those AmeriTracs and then get an alignment. I can't wait to see what a difference these Bilsteins make.

After 35k mi, my front shocks are giving a 2nd bounce after going over a speed bump so I too have been looking at Bilstein HD's. I realize they are firmer than OEM which is a great especially at highway speeds. In your opinion, how are they compared to OEM on small bumps or road irregularities at lower speeds? Firm but not harsh?

What size / brand of tires are you looking at? I tossed my Ameritracs at 5500 mi. as they were scary on wet roads.

I think I'm sticking with the stock 245/70R17 and I want to try out the General Grabber HTS.

Daddy,

If you use a ground force drop shackle, does that mean that you cannot use the Bilstein HD in the rear? They are direct replacement for stock shocks and hte stock shock still works with a drop shackle doesn't it?

I think the spec for the Bilstein 5100 has the min length as the same as the stock shock and the max length as longer. So, you should be o.k. with the 5100 shocks. But if you don't need the length, you can go with a stock size, direct replacement Bilstein instead of the 5100 series.

My Tahoe has rear coils, not leaf springs. The kit came with the shocks though so I am using them. They are great so far.

Yes, I was looking at the BE5-D971-HO front and BE5-E011-HO rear. I think Bilstein refers to them as HD's. I've been unable to find tech support at Bilstein, they refer me to my dealer and my dealer doesn't know if the rear shock will work with a drop shackle. If it will work, I'm going that way with a set of airbags for towing.
