Gm New Truck Or Car Purchase

Recommended Posts

Unless you are trading a clunker for a new vehicle, now is a bad time to buy a new GM truck or car. I noticed that GM has reduced all rebates by a considerable amount, in some cases by as much as $ 2,000 per vehicle, to reap the maximum benefits from the government CFC program. Not very ethical if you ask me. The government rebates were supposed to be in ADDITION to other incentives and were not designed so that GM could play games like these.

After the CFC crap is over, the prices will drop quickly again and the rebates will be higher.

I noticed that too. It was much better to buy in July instead of August. GM is playing dirty. Dodge is doing the same thing. They are stopping the $4500 rebate because it was too popular. Instead getting $4500 + CFC, now you are just getting CFC. If I didn't get a truck and had clunker to trade in, I would get a' '09 BMW 335 diesel. BMW is matching $4500 from the CFC. A new 335d would be around 32k.

Don't look for large rebates in the future. Those were necessary because GM was producing too many vehicles and GM was giving away the store with those. They have to get out of the business of giving rebates and they are going to do that by producing less vehicles so there will be more buyers than vehicles. GM started this right after 9-11-2001 and that have not been able to stop it since. Now the new GM is going to try.

An interesting vehicle. I was not even aware they had a passenger car diesel out this year. I want to read about it. Of course, I still have my '85 Mercedes 300D turbo, which is a very durable workhorse, but does not get nearly the fuel economy of the new BMW. The old MB diesels are indirect injection diesels, with cast iron block with cylinder liners and cast iron head with on overhead cam, built and designed for maximum longevity, rather than maximum fuel economy. But the car is in remarkable condition for its age, with only 130k original miles and rust free and original shiny paint. And payment free too.

The new BMW diesel has some favorable reviews so far. The torque in that thing must be pretty good. I would have to have one someday. BTW, cash for clunker back in business again.

Yea, that is why I jumped on is as soon as it came out...GMS plus $6,000 in rebates(still checking on another $750) plus $4,500 CFC for the win!

On the first day that a dealer could turn in cash for clunkers, GM limited the GM card earnings that you could redeem to $1,000 or $2,000. I almost walked away from the deal I was setting up on a HHR, but the goverment giving me $4,500 for a Grand Marquis I paid $5,000 for 3+ years ago was too good of a deal to walk away from. I emailed the GM card and told them I thought their policy violated the cash for clunkers provisions. Their response said that I am bound to the card holder policy and that it basically had nothing to do with cash for clunkers.

A good point. I have GM card earnings but I wonder how much I could actually redeem.

They (They being GM) or any of the other car manufactures should have never started the large rebates,Now when people walk into a showroom the first thing they ask the salesman is...."How much off sticker do I get?" or "Whats the rebates?"

What they should have done was just lower the actual sticker (MSRP) price.

GM Military discount = supplier pricing + rebates + CFC = THE SHIZZLE

Wait a second, are you saying the gov't giving everyone $4500 essentially raised the price of vehicles $4500???

Can't be true. I'm sure somebody would have factored that in when making the decision. :nono:

I've noticed this with just about all manufactures. As soon as the CFC program started up, they all drastically reduced their existing rebates and financing offers. Most are still there, just not as great. And who could blame them? Considering how much success the program is having, it's expected.

But I don't like huge rebates or discounts either. It's not like it will make the vehicle worth any more money. I wish they'd just lower the price and sell them as it is.

I agree. Instead of buttering the price up, and giving discounts to make you feel special, just lower the prices and leave it at that.

And build the Damn 4.5L please?? :sigh:
