most people will say that if you drive in the city alot, or want to tow anything then go with the 4.88. but if you travel highway alot, then go with the 4.56. but i dont think there is much difference in rpms between the two, so my vote goes for the 4.88s. plus if you ever want to upgrade to 37's you already have the gears in there.

yeah anything with stop and go traveling, the 4.88s will be better. and expecially off road driving. when i get my truck lifted, there will be 4.88s in there without a doubt. good luck when you get them. hopefully you will like them

i been wanting to upgrade my stock gears but i have no idea what i get.. my truck isnt lifted and i have the stock tires i am going to get some 22 and lower it just a lil bit but i know those gear have to go they suck lol

i had 4.56 and 35" tires on my old 2 door tahoe 350. IT was actually too low of a gear for anything highway. It would pull a freakin house but if i had to do it over i would have gone 4.10. So id say no to the 4.88

go with the 4.88's. one thing to keep in mind is the fact that eventually your truck is gonna start looking smaller and smaller (trust me) and you can easily get another 3" with a body lift for around 500$ and then your gonna need bigger tires say a 38" tire and the 4.88's would be ideal for that. GO BIG OR GO HOME! i went with 5.13's for my 38's and my truck is a beast!!! i love the extra torque

4.88's! Less work for the engine and transmission plus with the HD you have the heavier drivetrain to handle it!

it seemed to scream at 65-70 mph. Then again stock it came with 3.42 so i was used to running a low rpm at crusing speed. If i remember correctly it was turning 2800-3000 between 65-70. not too bad, just more than i really wanted. then again maybe the trannys were diff ratios in them compared to the newer trucks. i dunno. jmo

ive already noticed it getting smaller. lol. ive looked into body lifts already, and i can see bigger tires in my future. only thing with chevy is you need that extra lift even more because the friggin wheel wells are tiny.
