Engine Swap Help

Ok I've done some research but need to make sure on a few things. I have a 2006 silverado(2007 actually but it's a classic), it has the 5.3 with the 4L60e trans, it's 4X4 crew. I want to swap out the 5.3 with a LQ9 6.0, just need help confirming what all I'd need to change. From what I've gathered I'd need to upgrade to a 4L80 trans(correct me if I'm wrong). I also have heard I'd need a different flew plate. I really just need to know what all components I'd need, like maybe the computer....

Thanks again

oh I also plan on upgrading to 4.88 gears even if I don't do the engine swap.

Oh I forgot to mention that I'm not going to just want to keep and not change out certain parts because they can handle the upgrade. My truck runs great and I'd want the new engine to do the same. Id want the 6.0 LQ9 to be as stock as the day it was manufactured and put into the escalade/ss. So if the escalade/ss/ etc with the LQ9 came with any other components then I want to know so I can get them, no weak points that'll just get me by.

Sorry if I'm hijacking but.....I've been wondering myself about upgrading my transmission to a 4L80E if it's possible. I would still be keeping my 5.3. My 4L60E is showing some indications it's getting tired after 145,000 miles, or some other component problem IE: TPS, MAF, MPS, etc.

I would like to know the same thing. I am hopefully many miles off of a trans upgrade, but too wonder about an 80swap, and will keep the 5.3L.

Why not an LQ4? They have better compression ratios for boost if you are going to an F/I setup.

I would suggest just beefing up your 60e, as the shift points are quite a bit different on the 80e.

But the shift points are easily adjustable in the computer. It can't be that much different. People here mess up their shift points then if they change out a rear end to something different like a 4.10. :nono:

4L80 ratio's

2.48 1.48 1.00 0.75

4L60 ratio's

3.06 1.63 1.00 0.70

4l60 is much better for acceleration and towing in first gear.

+1 Don't go 80. A built 4l65e will not only take just as much power, but it will also put more to the ground than a stock 4l80e. Then, of course the 80's crappy ratios.

Also, good luck finding an lq9, they're much more expensive and harder to find than a garden variety lq4. An lq4 can make easy power for cheap. Just about everything can move over to the new engine. Remember, a 5.3/6.0L are the same block on the outside.

Is the 4L65E a completely different transmission or beefed up 4L60E for 6.0L engines?
