astroak Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 My 2004 Silverado 1500 has been having starting issues. It takes about 2-3 turns for it to actually start. Lately i've been letting it crank for about 2-3 seconds each key turn and it will eventually start. Right off the bat I assume its the starter. A couple of questions I have are: 1. can it be anything else? 2. does anyone have instructions on replacement of the starter? Thank You, Randy
bill190 Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 It take 2 to 3 turns [of what?] for it to start? 1. You turn the key and nothing happens? No sound. You turn the key two more times and nothing happens? No sound. You turn the key a 4th time and the starter motor then goes and the engine starts right up? -or- 2. Every time you turn the key, you can right away hear the starter motor crank the engine, but the engine does not start? And you crank and crank (can hear starter motor going), but the engine does not start? -or- 3. You open the hood, you turn the key to start, you can hear the starter motor going, BUT IT IS NOT ENGAGING THE ENGINE. The starter motor is turning freely. And the fan belt is not turning?
