Rear Seat Entertainment ?'s

I have an '09 Sierra Denali with the rear seat entertainment system with the DVD nav system. When I put a DVD in the upper slot of the radio, it plays on the nav screen but i can't get it to play on the rear screen. I get the audio through the wireless headphones but nothing on the screen. Am i missing something here or should it play automatically on the rear screen as soon as I flip it down? Any help is appreciated. thanks.

I have the RSE without the Nav. The only way I was able to duplicate the rear screen being off and the movie still playing was to turn the red power button off on the remote control. Could try that and see if it's something simple like that.
