Removing The Cats

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 chevy 8100 with the ally and I'm wanting to remove the cats, anybody no if it is worth it. Also something wierd my truck doesn't have o2s behind the cats just in front of them, and there is bolts inplace of where they are suppose to be. There's no extra wires or my check engine light isn't on either, thanks for the help.

Nothing gained. They are factory high flow.

Hope others will chime in on the O2 sensor question.

The question would be WHY?

The exhaust will stink. There is no performance gain unless the cats are plugged (which would be obvious). The truck will not be legal.

Sounds like someone previously removed the downstream O2 sensors and had the DTC turned off in a tune. I doubt they'd come from the factory like that.

Looked on SI and there should be a sensor after each cat. So, I'm with brims, someone had to have removed them for some reason. Either a tune or the previous owner knocked the cats out.

I's got high flow cats

nothing will be gained, the only reason you would want to do that is if you were going with a full custom exhaust, and you should still put aftermarket cats back in it.

A little late on this response..but considering there are no downstream O2 sensors..wouldn't be surpised if the cats are already gutted?

I heard you can get like a plug of some sort but i wouldnt know where to look.
