Audio Steering Wheels Controls

I'm trying to install Audio/BlueTooth Steering Wheel Controls on my 2009 GMC Sierra SLE. The truck did not come with any Audio Controls on the steering wheel.

Can anyone confirm if this is the correct part number (25851951)? I'm looking on GMPartsDirect.com.

I want the newer upgraded switch that has the mouth with phone symbol on the buttons.

There's no picture and the description is real generic on the website.

Thanks

I believe you'll also need a new clockspring (SIR Coil) to hook that up to, and have the BCM flashed if you want all that to work....

If your truck did not come with steering wheel audio controls, then you have to replace your entire steering wheel with one that his it for two reasons: the wheel itself is not cut to receive the new swith and there is no wiring in the wheel itself to hook up the switch and it is not available as a part. I know on the 07-08 as long as it had cruise, the new clock spring was not necessary. The audio controls are a plug and play. The bluetooth on the the 09's I am not familiar with though. Hope this helps out.

You mentioned 07-08 with cruise control do not need clock spring. Why is it needed for 2009 like mine (my truck has cruise controls on the steering wheel)?

Thanks

I think it was Daddy or someone who wrote a tutorial on here about it. This should be the part you need 15917933. It's the new steering wheel with the control and everything. As long as you have cruise on your steering already from what I've read it will work. I haven't tried this yet but planned to eventually. And maybe that's not the part you are looking for. I could be wrong

I'll check the part number on some of the GM websites see what truns up.

Thanks for the help.

You can buy just the switches for your 09...but you will have to cut your steering wheel surround for the controls, buy the switch cover along with the switch and either find or modify your existing harness inside your steering wheel. Here is a post steering wheel wiring harness post where the wiring harness is explained and pictured. I was going to go the modification route, but ended up buying a used steering wheel for $100 and putting it on. Hope this helps!

The only thing you need is get a used steering wheel from ebay that already has the cruise and audio controls...and swap it, easy as that.

You dont need the clockspring for the audio controls if you have cruise on the 07-08, and i am assuming 09 too. I have no idea if the bluetooth will be a plug and play, but the controls will. do you have the mic above the drivers side window in yours? If you pick the correct wheel, you also can get a heated one. I think it comes on with the rear defrost, but not 100% sure

You do not need the clock spring for the 09. I did this mod my self on my 09 ext cab. Simple plug and play.

gmercury2000,

Can you elaborate a bit more? What parts and part #'s did you purchase? Did you have to actually cut the housing around the steering wheel? If you took any pictures of the process, please post.

Thanks

Actually I bought a slightly used steering wheel from a fellow member with all the switches installed. I simply replaced the steering wheel as a whole as opposed to buying the switches and cutting and modifying the harness. Another option you have is to buy a wheel from any full size truck or suv, doesnt matter the make. Then you can take the harness, switches and back cover and install them on your existing wheel. Either way you would have to remove the wheel. Just remember when looking on ebay look under silverad, sierra, tahoe escalade and so on. The switches are the same for all or them.
