Horrible Service With Dealership

I have a 2007 new body style Silverado Ext cab. I purchased it in Dec 2007. Since then I've had the drivers side A-pillar replaced 3 times due to warpage, and the truck in for the squeaking rear doors 3 times. Their answer is tape. The tape looks tacky, collected dirt, and didn't fix the issue. The third time my truck was in for the doors my box of bungees I use to tie down cargo in the bed ended up missing. I've always taken my truck in for service to this dealership with this truck. I logged a complaint 3 weeks ago regarding the 4th A-pillar this truck has seen as it's also warped, and for the rear doors that are STILL squeaking whenever I hit a bump or are on a rough patch of road.

A lady from customer service called me back and promised me she would take care of these issues and said she would call me back. Over a week later she never called, so I called back and was told she was supposed to have a meeting with the service manager the following morning and promised me a callback right after. No callback happened.

I just called and asked for the GM and/or owner of the dealership as I am writing a letter to have my complaint in writing. I was told someone would call me back. To my surprise 20 min later someone did, the customer service manager. He wants me to bring my truck in a week from tomorrow and he will personally look at it. What sucked though is he is only offering a $40 shop credit for my missing bungees. No apologies or anything.

I was told that the A-pillar warpage is a known issue with the GMT-900 and GM doesn't know what to do to fix it.

It's a truck. What do you expect? It's gonna make noises. If you want something quiet and "solid" buy a car. Trucks just make noises. Good luck, and I hope things work out for ya though..... :P

Did know about this....Are you talking about the A pillar like THE A pillar the windshield goes against?

If your talking about the pillar by the windshield. My 07 was straight when I traded in June with 32k mi and my 09 is straight too. My extended cab doors creak in the morning while turning or going over bumps, but goes away once I move a bit. I'm going to grease the weather strip someday to end that.

Yes, the A-pillar molding that goes up against the windshield. To me they should look symmetrical on both driver and passenger. Passenger side looks fine, it's the drivers side that is warped.

None of our company trucks are having this A pillar problem.

I have not heard of this problem before myself, but I hope you ge it resolved soon. As far as customer service goes I agree that concept is gone for the most part. Stinks about your bungees but you know what they say about stealerships  of course they will not admit its possible one of there employes took them.

So as stated above, its the A Pillar molding, not the A pillar itself that you have had replaced? several times? Do you have a bug shield on the front of your truck?

Are you talking about the inside windshield pillar trim? The one on the right side on my truck was warped when I bought the truck. It was replaced under warranty, but it is only marginally better. It has to do with insufficient number of clips used to install a rather long piece of trim, plus inconsistent (=crappy) workmanship, such as off center windshield installation.

I know it's a truck, but it should still be solidly built too. My stepdad's Tundra doesn't have this issue....

 This is the first time I've ever heard of this, and I know quite a few people who own/drive GMT900s....

Maybe not, but the Tundra's have a crap load of other problems. We even have a few on this board who have switched back to GM from Crapota.

Well, took the truck in to have the customer service manager look at it. He had it for about an hour and said the A-pillar cover is a defect and it has to do with the way the windshield is installed. There's no fix for it. As far as the rear doors squeaking on the ext cab, his solution is to spray some silicone sealant on the weatherstripping once a month. He gave me a $50 shop credit for the missing box of bungees that they stole.

I hate this truck now. I tried to trade it in at the SAME dealership for a Traverse but they would only give me $16k for it. They don't even value their own vehicles very well.

    • I use Amsoil's OE line of motor oil (5W20) in our 19 Hyundai Santa Fe. I noticed today on the web site it now says (47% more wear protection1 than required by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification). Maybe I  missed it but I don't think so.
    • The amount of storage in the rear seat area is huge. You can keep all your cycle gear dry and clean back there
    • Truck in fluid changes and investigate subtle shudder at cruising speeds.  Told them it felt like my ‘14’s shudder when AFM kicked in.   Dealer #1 :  You need a new torque converter.   6 weeks later, after causing other damages to my truck, I get the truck back.  Same shudder exists. New, more violent shifts and vibrations at low speed.  After choice words and a few more weeks of waiting for them to replace my running boards supports, I move on to another Dealer.   Dealer #2:  The cruising speed shudder is DFM.  (I didn’t realize truck had it.) The TCM/ECM needs updates.  Updates will solve all vibration issues.   They perform updates, truck seemed ok in lot.  Not a mile down the road, SERVICE BRAKE PAD MONITOR. Dealer #1 stated brakes were at 4mm.   took truck back to Dealer #2, rear brakes at 2mm and less than 1mm.     New pads/rotors on rear, new pads up front.   truck seems good. Toggle through menus, brake monitor system is disabled.  Huh?  Why? Turn that sucker on : SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM!     will not reset manually, automatically, or even after pulling negative bat cable for 30min.     Could the TCM/ECM updates the culprit?    A torque converter diagnosis for a “normal” shudder and now I’m thousands in the hole and the truck still isn’t right!  Beyond pissed.
    • Your right on. 👍🏻
    • Seats matter a lot.  I would start there - good advise here.  I had a 2018 LT Colorado before my 2026 LT Silverado, and the seats are so much better in the new one it's not even a contest.  That was one thing I always hated about the Colorado and I owned two of them spanning 10 years - but I did it so I could park in the garage mainly.  Now I have a much larger property and a huge barn so I have plenty of parking options and a full size is more useful for maintaining the property and current hobbies as well.  I wasn't evenb thinking about the seats as part of the reason for the move to the Silverado, but after two back to back 700mile road trips I am sold on the LT seats w/ leather 100%.  The other LT features are also nice - one thing I really like is the power rear window on the back window by the bed.  And the lighting in the bed is also very nice to have - I doubt that comes on the lower models.  Power tailgate - also quite useful - it's a heavy slug!  What else - I could take or leave the screen - but heated seats and steering wheel and cruise control on the steering wheel is very useable - I would never want to live without that.  Even the colorados had that.
