I have a 96 ski-doo formula 3 600 triple for a sled. i dont do much for sledding so i dont know much about the dam things. but this thing i just cant figure out. The thing will run but when you come to take it out its like it has no power and gutless. Ive changed the plugs and wires on countless times but yet nothing. Changed the stator and even the belts to. I was curious maybe the engine hates the type of leads and plugs iam putting in. iam putting NGK in, Anyone got any ideas for me? also it has variable exhuast. i never seen this before. anyone tell me what it all does

First thing I think of when someone says they have a bog is the carbs.

Try going over on www.dootalk.com

Definitely someone over there whos experienced the same thing on the same sled.

I dont really know much about the ski-doo tripples.

see what the plugs look like, as i m sure you know that might give some clues.. makesure you got spark to all 3, check to makesure you got the right plugs too.... you got time

You say it runs? but bogs when you put some throttle into it?

NGK plugs are a good idea, I prefer them after chasing probs with other plugs in my Poo's and Doo's. If its first run after sitting awhile, don't be afraid to put some red bottle ISO heet in the tank and then fill it with good high octane fuel. Next, what oil has it been running? If its had a bunch of synthetic in it you might need to pull the RAVE valves and have them cleaned (or clean them yourself, Dootalk.com would be your best source for info on this)

Lastly ( might be firstly if you are like me...) Pick up the back of the sled and run the crap out of it. Make sure the clutches are shifting fully. Full squeeze on primary, fully open secondary. I have seen multiple Skidoo's that bog horribly due to sticky clutches. Get a sharpie and mark the belt face of the clutches so after this test is run you can verify they are shifting to 1:1. Even checking the belt deflection might give some insight on clutch problem.

Hope something here helps...Post up what you come up with!

Pull your Carb's off again. after you take the bowl off, you will see the main jet staring you in the face, about a 1/2 inch away down in a hole you will find a pilot jet or a so called slow jet. you will need a good flat tip screw driver to un screw it. After you get it out, look down the center, you should see a nice clean hole, if not, grab the old Lady's sewing needles and get to work cleaning it, you will also need carb cleaner and a small tipped blow gun. The needles will not go through the jet. After the carbs are done and if it still does it, you will need to take your reed cage's out and inspect them, these are behind the carb adapters that hold the carburetors on, you'll need a 8mm socket to take them off, and most likely new gaskets too. Not a big deal, I have done thousands of them.

what exactly is "red bottle ISO heet"? The oil that is in it i got just regular 2 stroke oil, but recently i just got a bottle of synthetic 2 stroke motor oil to dump in it. Yeah i got the carbs out of it now. Yeah i will take those things apart and check out those jets.

Does anyone know of what to do for exhaust? I'm looking of getting rid of that muffler. It weighs like a mother and I dont wanna spend much money for a better sound and for a little bit louder noise. haha I was gonna take the glass packs off my truck and see what it would sound like haha. And another thing is if anyone knows of a cheap but yet simple way of getting a little bit of extra power out of them?

Not sure if this is related but it might be. Here is a TSB AMSOIL put out on the power valves of 2 cycle engines and the fact that they get gummed up. It pays to use a good quality synthetic 2 cycle oil.

hey all so i got the sled all back together and it runs like a piece of garbage. i need to know how to set the carbs properly. i noticed that there is two set screws. on the left side of the carb is a a big one ( i think its a set idle screw ) and on the right hand side of the carb is a small set screw. can someone help me out? i dont know much about carbs. I did get the sled running but i cant keep it to stay running. the leads and plugs are perfect condition. brand new oil. all brand new premium gas in it to. i even took the air box off and i still cant get it to run right.
