Driveline Clunk Resolved (temporarily?)

My truck: 2008 Sierra WT Regular Cab 4.6 V8.

 

I have been long-suffering the annoying, pathetic driveline (slip yoke) shudder/clunk/jolt at stoplights and on takeoffs. This is inexcusable with today's engineering capabilities and standards. Totally inexcusable.

 

After the sixth failed repair attempt, the dealer finally replaced the slip yoke with the nickel plated yoke...allegedly from the Escalade parts bin?

 

Apparently, a new TSB allowed them to finally take this corrective action on the Sierra.

 

So far so good...almost 700 miles on this new yoke...hope no noise returns in the coming months.

 

Anyone else with similar experience or sentiment?

my 2001 clunks every once in a while, but it's no big deal.. when I need to replace a u-joint, I'll replace the yoke.. from what I understand it's just a noise, no failure associated with it..

Anyone else with similar experience or sentiment?

my 01 silverado 5.3 sometimes clunks drom a stop but im pretty sure it is just a noise. my uncles 04 expedition does the same thing

Re-packing the joke with grease will solve the problem. I had to do this on my 03 about every 10,000 miles. 10 minutes to drop the shaft and re-grease. Its not that big of a deal. Just noisy.
