May Add A Airaid Mit, But Nothing Else. Worth It?

Hi All,

I may add an Airaid MIT in the future, but not an intake kit. Plan on keeping the stock air box/filter combo. Are those Amsoil EA/Donaldson filters for real, or hype?

Unless I stumble across a GMPP CAI at a real good price, that is all I plan.

Future exhaust mods, will be when the stocker rots off, again either GMPP or MBRP.

the quit makin the gmpp exhausts right so if you wait too long thats gonna get hard to come by...

OK, thanks. MBRP is the one I will get then...

I too just went with the MIT. I ordered the Airaid Jr. kit from JC Whitney. It came in about 5 days, and has their brand of filter with it (Synthaflo I think w/lifetime warranty) for $139 to my door. Pretty good deal I think.

I got mine used for $80 and I cant tell if it added any HP or not but it sure does sound a lot better at part and full throttle.

think about it this way.....a full open cone intake will make ~10 HP at 5000 RPMS.

Best case scenario with a new tube and an aftermarket filter, you may see ~5 HP. if you're doing it for a HP increase or a MPG increase, i would hold off. if you're doing it to just have a little better flowing intake and not having to replace the filter (as I did) then go for it.

why would a cone filter make 5hp more than a good flowing panel filter?

I think it's more important to get a straighter, more direct airflow path

It's pretty much just like flipping over the air cleaner lid in the 70's. Yeah it sounded faster and even felt faster, but was it? Can you even feel 5hp? Not really worth it to me, even at $80. If you want more hp, get a tune...you WILL feel that.

Got the tune. Still like the sound of the MIT.....and........it's hurting what again?

I bought the MIT for my truck, and I don't regret it. Is it better performance wise? No. However, it IS a lot cleaner under the hood and makes working on things without the air baffles/etc. in the way much nicer.

I would assume being less restrictive would gain some HP ,, can you tell - probably not ,, it sounds good though .. :-)

and yes it does clean up the engine bay ,,

Never said anything about it hurting anything....where'd you get that?
