First Time Cleaning.

Recommended Posts

Well I wanna clean my engine compartment and it's my first time doing it.

So what cleaners do I buy?

What do I need to cover up and not spray?

Do I use just a regular spray from a nozzle on a garden hose?

I'm a detailing nub btw

Thanks!

Im do detailing on the side and all i can say is to make sure the engine is cold, cover the alternator with a plastic bag as-well as the intake and the fuse panel. Other than that just spray the chemical you bough (i use engine

by Gunk) on the engine let it sit about 3 min then spray it off with the garden hose. After allowing the water to dry for a while start up the truck and let it run for about 3-5 min.

This is pretty-much what I do. Grab a Wal-Mart bag & a roll of tape and cover the alternator, fuse box, and maybe your intake. Any good spray engine cleaner should be OK. I happen to use Simple Green myself. Then I just spray the entire compartment with a light jet of water. Wait for 10-15 minutes afterwards, remove the plastic bags, then start the engine to help dry it off.

I've never had my engine steam cleaned, but I imagine any good detail shop should be able to perform the service.
