I changed to amsoil full syn in august this year and have about 3k on it. I am seeping from what appears to be the oil pan gasket? I'm not really sure. I'm just wondering if I gotta change to something else because this will persist? Or will the additives in the amsoil eventually stop this seeping. Looks like I have lost almost a quart in these 3k. Thinking maybe valvoline max life would be a solution since it is supposed to help gaskets and seals....motor currently has 60k and it is the aluminum block

Why do you think it is worse? I have about 5k on my truck with the Amsoil XL 7500 oil and no leaks. This is my third oil change and my truck has 77k. I would change your oil pan gasket.

I would first find out where the oil is coming from for sure. If it is the oil pan gasket then it will need to be replaced.

 

There is always a chance of a leak developing when switching over to any synthetic due to the cleaning abilities of synthetic motor oils. Not saying that it is always going to leak but there is always a chance, especially on higher mileage engines.

 

I have read several accounts where individuals tried an engine flush to clean up their engine and still used the same oil they have always used and leaks developed. The flush just cleaned out what was keeping the leak from happening in the first place.

What do you mean by worse? Do you think you're burning it?

 

If you think it's being consumed, try another brand.

 

You can add a dye that is designed to be used in engine oil. Try that and track down a leak.

I got a 1993 Chevy Lumina with 3.1L engine and been using AMSOIL since new. Absolutely no leaks in 16 yrs so it can't be the oil.

 

You probably had a leak all along but now are looking for things.

Interesting fellas. Well I do believe it was just seeping before as I cannot blame amsoil. I have been using it in other vehicles for many years. I took some pics today of where the oil is settling on the bottom side of the truck, rear and above oil pan right around where the trans starts.

 

I like the idea of putting a dye in. I'm just not interested in having the dealer do a search since money is tight. If it something more expensive I want to be prepared.............that is why I am hoping smarter folks like you can help!

i used the dye kit for my A/C... found leak[high side valve]... this kit has dye for oil leaks,too... i gave it to buddy but he hasn't used it yet... i think i bought kit at Advance Auto Parts---think it was 56 bucks.... Are you sure it's eng. oil? the newer oil pan gaskets are one piece and rarely leak[even when i put them on![i use RTV with any gasket change-except where gasoline passes by]

No I am not sure about much of anything except there appears to be oil where there should not be any.

Just wondering what the front of the engine block looks like??? Not a lot of oil, I would think that it could be something as simple as a loose nut/ bolt holding your oil pan. I noticed a few scrapes on one of the cross members, could have loosen something and the new oil is cleaning out the blockage.

 

When I worked in the dealership, we had some trucks that leaked like this and it was either a loose oil filter or a loose bolt on the pan.

 

Try carefully tightening the bolts with a hand rachet, does not take much force, if you can get a 1/4 turn that is all you need to 'fix' the problem. Simple and cheap.....

The front is clean. I will surely give tightening down the oil pan bolts a try. I lost about a quart over 3k miles....

 

I'm not exactly sure what that scrape is from on the cross member, but I still have not put the skid plate on since changing front diff oil a month ago.

I had the same concern. I had oil in the same area as that, but had zero oil loss on the dipstick. When i drain my oil, after the stream dies down, it drips onto the top of my skidplate and a piece of the frame. I think the wind from driving right after blows the little bit of oil out off the skid plate and all around that area.
