2007 Silverado Lt - Plastic Fairing Under Bumper

I've only left mine on due to the amount of rain and how it likes to puddle here in Texas. I've had a few friends who have issues from the puddles killing horns and in one case the engine but that was on a Ford Ranger.

My understanding for the purpose of that plastic extension is to create more low air pressure and promote better air flow through the rad. The owners guide says ('07) to remove it if needed but to expect less cooling when towing. SF

I know this is an old thread, but whats the consensus now. I have a 2012 Silverado LT and would like to know if everyone still takes this off. Also what is the part number for this part.

I did well over a year and 20000 miles ago, no issues yet.

Removed mine last year...Not a problem and gives it a better look....

I can see a screw holding it down on both ends, are there any in between and if so how many? (I can't get under my truck at the moment too much snow!)

Should be held in with those stupid plastic push pins.

Its a piece like the lower air dams on the current models he's talking about. The plastic of the bumper is held on by push rivets.

I ended up taking mine off. No problems with overheating what so ever. I think it looks better too.

I left mine on. My line of thinking is, in light of the way these things rust before your eyes when covered in road salt, IF that plastic thing keeps just a few drops off corrosive road salt off the undercarriage then I'm ahead of the game. With the amount of money these damn things cost, I expect to get 10x the intended life out of it come hell or high water. A little used motor oil under there doesn't hurt either.

This pic was taken in '09, when the truck had ONLY seen ONE winter. At the rate it was going, there wouldn't be a frame left to bolt the bumper to in a few more years. :sick:Newtruck-fixeddamagerustunderbumper.jpg

Wash your truck more. Mine has been through one winter too and still looks new underneath because I take proper care of it.

Should have known the know it all would have the answer for this one!:lol::lol:

Yeah, I NEVER wash my $30,000 truck. That's just chump change. I'll buy 6 more next week.

I believe the facia is there to promote more air flow thru the rad by taking away air from going under the truck,

if someone else heard that chime in

Yep it was designed for a reason and I read the same something about airflow. Doesnt bother me
