Extensive Corrosion

Hey Everyone, not sure where to post this, but it is definitely a GM Tech question I think...

I was driving home tonight in my 2009 GMC 2500HD Gas. I purchased the truck a few months ago with 100 miles on it. While driving home I could feel a thimping from the front end which seemed odd. When I pulled onto my street I put it into 4x4 to see if it made a difference. It then proceded to growl very loudly from the front end (this was going in a straight line not turning...). When I got home I took a look underneath to see if anything looked odd... These Images are what I found. Is it me? or does the corrosion seem VERY extensive for a brand new truck? It was on a lot for a year but still.. Thanks a lot for listening to me rant on, what would you do? THANKS!!!

well, its back at the dealers now. They said they need to have some gm reps come down and look at it to decide if they will do anything for me or not. I am doubtful.....

corrosion warranty .....? I would stop back and get them to claify exactly what that covers because after three months it looks like this! The bottom of a new truck should look sort of new for awhile. At least until you drive it for a few thousand miles and a few seasons not just a short time. The only rust you should see on a new truck is the exhuast manifold if its cast and some of the nuts and bolts.

That sucks .... I've never seen anything that bad, that new!! That is unacceptable!! Doesn't GM corporate realize that the internet exists??? Word gets around???

I'm pretty disappointed with GM's corrosion resistance. I have an '07 -- first new vehicle I ever bought in my life, so I went all out. My brother has a Nissan Xterra that's 3 years older, PLUS he lived farther north where it snowed twice as much, and it looks better than my truck that's seen only 2 winters. I could have bought 2.5 Xterras for what I paid for mine too. If GM wants to continue to be in business, they'd better listen to what folks are saying out there! I'm a die hard GM guy going back since I got my license in 1990, & I've owned a GM from every decade since the 60's at one point .... needless to say I haven;t been impressed with things this last decade. I just hope my truck doesn't turn into a rustpile before I'm done paying for it! :jester:

Here is my truck after 2 winters. The bumper was removed to repair damage ..... and that's a whooooooole other can of worms .... make sure you DON'T EVEN TAP that chrome part of your bumper! I swear it's made of LEAD .... but cost well over $200!! I just TAPPED a tree -- a tiny 2" maple -- at LESS THAN 5 MPH, & it had to be put on the frame machine at $100/hr!! NO JOKE!! It tweaked the whole box all the way to the wheelwell!!!! :P Are you F*ing kidding???? Don't make me buy a Ford, GM! Are you listening????

Sorry .... here's my winter rust pics: The last pic of frame was AFTER 1 WINTER!!

well, just got it back and as suspected.....everything is normal.. they said "don't worry, it has a 100,000 mile corrosion warranty on all the frame and parts" so I guess I'm supposed to feel better... I dont! on well I tried! Thanks all for your help and input!

My font bumper had holes rotted through from the inside out @ 65k. GM claims they ONLY cover sheetmetal fo 100k.After back and forth with GM for several months...I ended up having to buy a new one. If they claim to cover otherwise I'd make the rep put it in writing.

yeah I know.... its a bummer, but they said the frame and underside components are covered 100,000. that was supposed to make me feel better. IT DIDNT!!!! anyways I'm going to call GM tomorrow and just make sure they know I'm disappointed and won't be buying another truck from them if this is the kind of stuff their customers just have to "live with". oh well as you said Nytemare, it was what I was expecting......

Well, they are replacing the back bumper, but no matter what I said they WILL NOT address the corrosion underneath. They just kept telling me that its covered in the 5 year 100,000 mile corrosion warranty and is not a problem at this time. Oh well, I think this will be my last GM even though they are my favorite......

let the rep look at it. if they say it's normal, but it probably not, at least you have a documented issue on record. if it is making that much noise then there should be no reason it will not be repaired..

good luck
