Extensive Corrosion

Hey Everyone, not sure where to post this, but it is definitely a GM Tech question I think...

I was driving home tonight in my 2009 GMC 2500HD Gas. I purchased the truck a few months ago with 100 miles on it. While driving home I could feel a thimping from the front end which seemed odd. When I pulled onto my street I put it into 4x4 to see if it made a difference. It then proceded to growl very loudly from the front end (this was going in a straight line not turning...). When I got home I took a look underneath to see if anything looked odd... These Images are what I found. Is it me? or does the corrosion seem VERY extensive for a brand new truck? It was on a lot for a year but still.. Thanks a lot for listening to me rant on, what would you do? THANKS!!!

That does look a little overboard.

But this is its second winter now right...first on the road. Depending on where you live, it may be normal.

It all looks like just surface rust...If you don't like how it looks just get a can or two of rust converter and hit all the spots. When its dry...hit it with some Tremclad black...or similar rust paint...than let that dry and get it undercoated with something like Crown or Rust Check.

I hear ya, but its just upsetting that its only been on the road for 3 months. the other thing is.. if feels like it has some front end grinding problems. Possibly related. Maybe even frozen universals. I don't know if the dealer would do anything or not.

Well your gonna get all kinds of bad sounds coming out of the front end when you pop in it 4wd on pavement...but seeing its new..bring it in...could be something really wrong.

yeah I know, but generally it doesn't sound like this one does while driving in a straight line. but what i might do is call the dealership tomorrow and talk to the owner (who I buy from) and just explain the situation. It will make me feel better anyways. Thanks a lot for your input!

well, its back at the dealers now. They said they need to have some gm reps come down and look at it to decide if they will do anything for me or not. I am doubtful.....

let the rep look at it. if they say it's normal, but it probably not, at least you have a documented issue on record. if it is making that much noise then there should be no reason it will not be repaired..

good luck

well, just got it back and as suspected.....everything is normal.. they said "don't worry, it has a 100,000 mile corrosion warranty on all the frame and parts" so I guess I'm supposed to feel better... I dont! on well I tried! Thanks all for your help and input!

That's Balls man....sucks to hear....but its pretty much what you were expecting.

Get some rust converter now and coat all the rusty parts....than hit them with some Black Tremclad paint to cover the rust up nicely and avoid further corrosion. Also....coat everything else thats not rusty....and the newly painted stuff after dry in rust check or similar product.

corrosion warranty .....? I would stop back and get them to claify exactly what that covers because after three months it looks like this! The bottom of a new truck should look sort of new for awhile. At least until you drive it for a few thousand miles and a few seasons not just a short time. The only rust you should see on a new truck is the exhuast manifold if its cast and some of the nuts and bolts.
