Remote Start

Ok, my truck is a 2003 Silverado Extended cab, apparently it was a late build in 2003 because the guy at Best Buy told me I had a 2004. It does look more like the 2004's I have seen, so I'm not sure if that's going to make a difference.

What I am looking to do is the remote start with a factory fob like I have seen discussed on here.

I am guessing I need an XK01 or XK09, and I also need a 551T, 561T, or 564T? So Xpresskit makes the XK01 and XK09, DEI makes the 551T, 561T, and 564T.

What combinations have worked for you, what's the least amount of wiring, and are those two parts the only ones I will need? Should it matter if the Silverado is a late model?

I'm looking to fix my truck up now that it's hit 100,000 (just the other day) and keep it in the family (Probably pass it down to my son, after doing a little work, and making him fix up a clunker first).

Anyway, looking for some feedback on exactly what I need to grab off e-bay to get er dun... got the go ahead from the wife, so I've gotta get it done quick or risk having the remote start money spent on curtains...

No diff in years, never heard of Xpresskit, Dei on the other hand is a major top brand of alarms/remote starts so if there is ever a issue you can just about anywhere. Wiring is wiring, just depends on options for you. Since you were at Best Buy you didnt talk to the guy about the different dei models?? I would go back there and talk a installer about the different models dei has to offer. The 551 is the older model of the 561 and 564. Getting it off ebay, some manufacturers will not honor warranty issues that could arise, might want to check with dei if that would be a issue for you and have it installed professionally too...

+1 to the XK01, upgradable features, can control heated seats and mirrors, makes installation much easier since you dont have to splice as many wires between remote controller brain and the truck, just between remote control brain and XK01, mostly everything goes through violet data wire which is found at pin 2 of the OBII connector under drivers side dash.
