They Took Away My Truck :(

After five and a half years, I've finally finished college (and all I got was two lousy degrees :jester:). I was lucky enough to get a great job in central California, and my girlfriend and I are setting off in her Volvo to drive cross country on Monday from the Washington, DC area. The moving company came and picked up my truck yesterday, made me kind of sad to see it going, even though its only for a little while!

Haha thought "Operation Repo" what it cost to pay someone to move a truck that far? Cheaper to drive?

It is costing $2100. Can be done for half or less, but the less you pay, the longer it takes. The new job is paying the shipper directly, so there isn't much motivation for me to move cheaply. We are going to drive my girlfriends car, as the job won't pay to ship it. Would love to drive my truck cross country, but of course its fairly impractical relative to the car for such things.

Yeah my buddy worked in Cali for the Toyota plant that made the matrix and pontiac vibe.. They shipped his truck for him. Nice to have a company do that for ya! Congrats on the job.

Welcome to the Land O' Liberals. Soon you'll want to :smash: most everyone. Seriously though, people aside, its a beautiful state. Beaches, lakes, mountains, desert, everything. Enjoy.

Congratulations on the graduation and job, Tom. And welcome to our late great state. As you may have heard, we're broke (worse than broke, really) and unemployment is extremely high. The good part is: you're employed, or will be shortly. Hopefully, your employment is a good sign for CA.

You're gonna like the great variety of California's land. It really is one of the greatest states for the land and climate itself. If we could just throw out the fruits, nuts, and Pelosi/Boxer/Feinstein, we may have a great place to live again.

Happy holidays from CA

I remember when I moved to CA back in 1990, CA DMV charged me $500 for a "smog impact fee" since my 1988 Mustang GT wasn't 50 state legal. Don't know where you are moving from, but better check into that before you finish all your "moving expenses"
