Adding Power Folding Mirrors

I have a 2007 Silverado new body ext cab. It already has power mirrors. What would it take to add the power folding mirror option to it?

I don't know if it's the same for the new style, but I bought a pair off of eBay and have my mechainc friend reprogram the switch. He hooked it up to this PC and flashed the firmware. BTW, my truck is 2005 Silverado LT.

Nope, the GMT900 series trucks require an additonal memory module or some other module in the door along with the power folding mirrors. I cant seem to remember off the top of my head but there is more than simple programming (unless those modules are already in the doors).

The GMT800s only require the mirrors and the BCM to be reflashed.

You need the switches for the door panel and the power fold works, but you need a reprogram for the BCM for the pass side to fold

what about the passenger side? do i need a new switch for that side too? will the reprogram take my BB tune off?

I was interested in this and found some very good info here:

Basically to paraphrase that thread, for the easy swap your current window switches have to be the style with the included databus module (typically the uplevel trims, ie Sierra SLT or Silverado LTZ) instead of the standard hardwired switch panels. If you have those databus style the swap is apparently as easy as adding the DL3 mirrors, swapping in a driver-side and passenger-side switch panel from a truck that had DL3's, plugging in the connectors, and everything is likely to be plug-n-play and there's no need to get anything reflashed. If you buy new switches that didn't come from a truck with the DL3's, or only buy a used driver-side switch and not the passenger-side too, then they apparently have to re-flash your BCM but the rest of the install is still just as easy.

However if you have the hardwired style, while it's still theoretically possible to upgrade to the DL3's (read post #9 in the link above), it involves all new wiring harnesses, switches, upgrading the BCM, rewiring the rear window switches, ordering a new XM receiver (no joke), some knowledgeable flashing and programming, and so forth. In other words, it looks to be very complicated and probably expensive, so I don't know if it's worth it. Unfortunately I'm in this boat as my switches are the the hardwired style.

For identification purposes, this is the hardwired style of switch:

And this is the style with the databus module (note the different types of connections):post-68159-1263218960_thumb.jpgpost-68159-1263218966_thumb.jpg

From what I've read, you can identify the databus style without seeing the connections by that larger circle mirror adjustment pad and the half-circle notched mirror selector button under it, versus the smaller mirror adjustment pad and rocker-style selector switch on the hardwired style. But if you want to double-check (which I did just in case I was lucky enough that mine were somehow the databus style even though they look like the hardwired ones), it only takes a minute to disassemble the door enough to remove the switch and see what type of connectors you have.

I just bought my 07 Sierra SLT Crew last week and have factory installed DPN extendable camper mirrors. My switch panel is the second one in your post. This may be a completely stupid question and may be me not knowing how to use the switch panel properly. BUT anyways, are DPN's power extendable and power folding? If yes, how is this completed using the switch?

Sorry, I have no idea for sure, as my limited knowledge of the mirrors and switches is pretty much covered in what you read above, and that was all regurgitated info I found elsewhere that I figured I'd pass along here to save others the trouble of searching other forums like I did.

But I think I recall reading on another post here that there were no power-fold extendable tow mirrors, just don't quote me on that.

My SLT came from the factory with power adjustable, heated & signal tow mirrow that MANUALLY extended out. I felt the mirrors were simply way too large for my truck prior to the lift so I swapped to the regular, power folding DL3s with heat, signal, etc.

Swapping out the mirrors and switches was the easy part. The 2 days of dealer programming trying to configure my trucks BCM to recognize the passenger side door module (switch) was the pain.

Once it was all complete I was (and remain) VERY happy with the results.

If you search some of my old posts from about 2-years or so ago, I have a multi-page writeup on this very mod somewhere on this site.

P.S. GM no longer makes a power-extending function mirror. They quit this a few years back on the GMT-800s due to maintenance issues. All of the Camper/Tow mirrors since then are Manual Extending, with some being just the basic mirror and some having the nicer signal/heat/power adjustments.

Thanks for the info. I like the looks of the big mirrors right now. May look into DL3 later on. So another question along the same lines. I have the DPN with the signal/power options added. Does that mean they are heated? I didnt think I had the heated option because there are no switches to turn them on and off. I dont know if the above switch was for mirrors that included the heated option.

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

If they're heated they come on when you turn on the rear window defogger via the button in your HVAC controls, there's no separate switch to heat just the mirrors. And looking at my '10 owner's manual, it says that on the towing mirrors just the upper glass is heated and not the lower convex section, so since yours are OEM I'm guessing that's the case.
