2006 Sierra Stalling

i have a 2006 gmc sierra ext. cab 4.3 6cyl. it stalled out several times on the freeway today. it would run for a few minute some times before stalling and some times it would stall sooner. it is in my driveway now. when i start it, some times will start fine but only run for 10 to 30 seconds before stalling. at other times it will crank but not start. i had gotten gas acouple of hours before this started happening. truck ran fine for the next 10 to 15 miles, the the problem began. when i turn key to on (without starting) i hear a noise thar sounds like gears moving.it lasts a couple of seconds. i added a moisture removing additive to gas. no difference

is it possible that i got bad gas, or more likely that the problem is the fuel pump or fuel filter, or something else. i have no trouble light on and have no error codes come up when scanned.

some how i am now able to get truck started and it will run at idle fairly steady. it stalled one time after a few minutes, but a couple of other times it ran for at least 10 minutes until i would run it at higher rpms (2500)for a few seconds then it would bog and stall. or if i give it gas rapidly it would bog but not always stall. are these conditions consistent with a failing fuel pump? the truck has 80k miles and hasnt had a tune up. up to this point it has run smooth and gas milage has been consistent. it seems to run smooth when idling right now. again no codes on code reader. thanks for any input

No codes and bogging and staling tell me that it is probably pump related.

Plus you said it sounds weird when you turn the key ahead.

Time for a fuel sending module. They do go bad. Mine went out at 90,000 miles on my old 99. Make sure you replace the module, which will include new pump and new filter and the float for the fuel guage.

Also make sure you don't run your truck with below 1/4 a tank of gas as the fuel serves as a cooling feature for the fuel pump in the tank. Overheated pump = dead pump sooner.

i had a mechanic ( honest, with a good reutation) check out the problem. he seems to think it is a bad ignition module and/or coil. he road tested it and when it died on him he put anothe coil and module on it. it fired right up and gave him no further problems. pardon my automotive ignorace, but i would think that would generate some sort of trouble code? i realize that there are conditions that might elude the computer diagnostics. im just looking for another opinion

Your correct, It would throw a trouble code at you.

Yeah it should have thrown a P0300, multiple misfires detected code at you.

But if its fixed and working well...than not much you can do right.

i had ignition module and coil replaced. truck has been running fine for a couple of weeks. the only problem i have is that i am getting a p0420 and ap0430 code. i have cleared them but they come right back. these have to do with catalyst efficiency bank 1 and bank 2. it has been suggested that perhaps the O2 sensors are sending false readings because engine may have been running rich while i was having stalling problem. also while truck was in shop i had the throttle body cleaned. i believe they used gum out. would any of this have an effect on the O2 sensors or catalytic converter ? can O2 sensors be cleaned or would they need to be replaced ? again, truck runs fine and gas milage is the same as before the initial problem
