okay i talked to a shop in edmonton, they said they could port and polish a set of ls1 heads, install cam, heads and comp cam valve train and dyno tune for roughly 3 grand...is this a good deal? remember this is alberta (oil country) and you get raped on labour prices...and i dont have the time to do it myself..go or no go? p.s. thats not including the price of used heads still have to find some

Way too much money, you could practically buy a supercharger.

well ive gotten quotes for blowers from pro-charger and magnacharger and they are like 6 grand to my door. complete kit. so i dont think i could practically buy one lol. keep in mind where im from shop rates are like 170 an hour. edmonton shop rates are like 120. he said its like 1000 bucks to get port and polish job. bout 800 bucks for cam and valve train. 650 bucks flat rate for dyno tune. and the about 12 hours labour...around 3 grand he said...

Which blower set up are you looking at?? I could get you a better price than that.

As for the dyno rates, what type of dyno and tuning? If you are just getting dyno pulls, that is definitely not worth your money. What kind of cam? Who is spec'ing your cam?

You'd still need to do engine work to have any durability.

its a dyna jet they said, they are efi certified guys with 20+ years exp. like i said they are installing everything, port and polish job on the heads, push rods, springs, retainers and rockers by comp cams and a custom grind cam...they said they should get 420+ HP at the flywheel with this set up. but i need ls1 heads for the compression. the shop is called horsepower solutions, check out their website its in edmonton. google it. they are widely respected...so....does the price sound right? i just dont know and the kit i wanted was a pro-charger. forget which one. the small one. lol

$1000 isprobably average for good head work, but the cam and dyno are way too high. If it's a really reputable mech., you're paying a little more for the name AND the finished product.

I bought some Trick Flow heads for the 502 in my '72 and had one of the best(arguably) head guys in the SE rework mine. ~$1400. I put the rest of the motor together myself.

Shop around some more.

Really? There are thousands of people running blowers on stock engines, with no issues.

I see they are EFI Certified through EFIUniversity, that is who Justin teaches for.

I wouldn't get any vehicle of mine tuned on a DynoJet, unless it is load bearing (most are not). If they are just tuning off of pulls, then that is only good for WOT, so you need to be sure that they street tune as well to dial in your shift points.

Honestly, I think the prices are on the high end, but then again I don't know how that compares for you in Canada.

What kind of compression? Daily driver?

If they're that reputable, then you should get what you paid for. I think it's ~$200-$400 too high, but again, you're paying a little extra for peice of mind and for their name. Then again, other than the porting/polishing, I'd do the rest myself.

There's also thousands of people running nitrous on stock motors that don't last half their expected lifetime. I guess it's all relative to how you use the vehicle.

Personally, I'd never run a power adder on a stock engine because I've seen how they end up. Higher compression, temperature and all that. I'd have to have different pistons, head work, aluminum heads, etc., but that's just from my experience.

If someone has the money to blow or won't keep the vehicle for more than 20-30,000(if that) miles.....probably no big deal.

We have Magnachargers on 3 of our vehicles, one of which has had it on for over 50K miles no problems. They all sit at higher than thier stock boost levels as well. The engines are fine, it is the transmission that are the weakest links.

That shouldn't be too bad on your wallet for gas. :seeya::sigh: Do you want the extra power for towing/hauling or play? :banghead:

I say do it. Around here(Georgia), there's no shortage of people to compete for your money. They've got the rapport, too.
