Dl3 Mirror Help For A 09' Silverado

I am looking to upgrade to some DL3 mirrors (signal mirrors) and have a few questions:

What are stock (power + heated) silverado mirrors worth in brand new condition?

I know the DL3 mirrors will be plug & play with my nnbs factory mirrors except that the "power fold" wont work unless I get a new switch. I don't really care about the power fold, as I only want to upgrade for the signals, but will the DL3 mirrors manually fold like the factory mirrors If for some reason I would need to fold them in?

thanks,

Chris.

The will still have the fold-a-way feature that allows you to manually fold them.

My 2009 silverado ext cab currently has this switch:

If I get a set of DL3 mirrors w/ power fold, and then I get this switch:

everything should be plug & play correct? And if I don'tend up getting the new switch, I just wont get to use the "power-fold" feature...right?

thanks,

Chris.

NO! The wiring harness in your door is different from the one you are considering. You must have the luxury interior or you must change the door harness as the connectors are all different. The DL3 mirror will have two connectors, one will have a spot to plug in and the other that controls puddle lamp and fold will not. If you get the new switch, the mirror will all plug up, but the other connectors in the door will not. See if you can get shots of the switch connections to see what I am talking about. I went through this about a year ago.

Just wire the power fold to a momentary switch. Thats what i did when i upgraded to DL3 mirrors. Yellow and light blue wires activate power fold in and out.

I found it to be easier to swap the mirror glass from the signal mirrors and harness rather than the whole mirror.

Signals are plug and play for DL8 to DL3 upgrade. The powerfold isnt. If you just want signals then install the entire dl3 mirror and plug it in. Signals work automaticly. If you want power fold you will have to wire the mirrors to a switch. I know cause i instaled a few of these in 07+ trucks and older trucks.

I currently have the door modules and the harnesses are on their way. Once they are installed will the Body Control Module require a re-flash or will it be plug and play? Thanks.

I know signals are plug and play, which is why I found it easier to just add the glass with new harness less the unused plug for power folding instead of the whole thing, the power fold mirror is heavier and in my opinion, it didn't break away as smoothly as the non power fold. Plus since I don't want an odd ball momentary switch to activate a power folding feature I'll never use...

tarrantrich:

If you buy the modules and new harness, the truck will have to be reprogrammed, from what I've heard it was pretty complex, having to have the whole truck reconfigured and a new program written for it. Wasn't me so I can't speak for certain on that.

Or you could put in a momentary switch, that would not look factory.

If you're changing it from the non-databus style of switches (like the first switch panel style pictured above) it's quite a bit more involved than just that from what I found when looking into this. Here's a post I came across from a tech who did the upgrade for a customer that spells out all that's involved to get the factory modules to work:
