295/70-17

I know I can run 285's without a issue. I am going to turn the torsion bars to get about 1.5" of lift so the truck will sit more level. I was going to get some 285's but I was wondering if a 295 would fit? with the stock rim of course.

are you looking at Toyo's or Nitto's....those are the only brands I can find in a 295/70/17 tire. I can't remember what the stock rim width is, but I wouldn't go any less than an 8" wide rim with that tire. there is a 285/75 tire that's a half inch taller and about a half inch narrower that you could get away with a 7.5" wide rim (which I believe is stock???) are you looking for height, width, or both?

If you can live with it, I might suggest going with a 2" body lift instead of cranking the torsion bars. You'll get the same clearance for the front tires. It's weird, some trucks you can max out the bars and it will drive forever and never break anything in the front end....but some will start wearing out parts as fast as you can put new ones in. my cousin has had his cranked on his 06 for over 2 years and he runs 33X12.50 MT's with no problems. other people wear stuff out within the first month.

Im looking for both height, and width. Looking at a Nitto tire.

I am trying to stay away from a 2" lift, although ZONE has one for like $150 it is very tempting. I would think that turning the torsion bars only 1.25/1.5" would be fine. Everyone seems to agree that 2" is the limit, so I am staying well below that.

Cooper STT also makes a 295/70/17. Toyo is the only one that makes a 285/75/17 that I'm aware of.. Just be prepared to fork over the cash for some Toyo's

On our body style, lots of guys on the Z71Tahoe-Suburban forum are running 295/70/17 tires with no rubbing issues (on-road and off-road) after upgrading to Ford keys and installing 1-2" rear coil spacers (which would be rear blocks in your case). No topping out problems either if you upgrade to shocks designed for 0-2" lifts.

I was just researching this same thing. I was looking at some 295s (i currently have 285) and it looks like we are limited to Nitto Terra Grapplers or Toyo whatever theyre called. Been reading reviews and the nittos seem to wear quick and the toyos seem to have a horribly weak sidewall. I do have a 9in wide rim though.

There are a few other 295/70/17 choices at Discount Tire Direct. :banghead:

so just to be clear a 295 will not fit on a factory wheel? but I can run 285/75-17, if I go with a 2" lift or a 1.5" torsion bar crank?

That's what I'm gathering.

I am having a hell of a time deciding what I want to do. I REALLY want BFG All Terrain TA K/Os...but they are so expensive and I am guessing, drink a little more fuel.

My stock size is 265/70-17. In that size, the prices of the two tires I'm looking at are like this:

BFGs: $189.99

Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 2: $163.00

BUT if you jump to 285/70-17 the prices go like this:

BFGs: $220.00 (+ $30 a tire)

Bridgestone: $175.00 (+ $12 a tire)

I need to make a choice by April when I get my BB tune...because I think Justin can adjust the speedometer to read correctly.

with the bigger tires, when my speedometer would show 60MPH, I would actually be going ~62.1MPH.

You can run a wider tire on stock rims and not have any problems. The 285 width tire is just the largest they recommend. My uncle is running 315/75/16's on his '05 Duramax on stock rims. You always see 305's on trucks without any problems also. I would say a 295 would be alright to be on a stock rim.

285/70/17's fill out your body style truck really well though. You get considerably more expensive each width you go up usually. Are you looking at mud tires or all terrian?

Good to know (for both of us)

Now...to decide on a tire...

Well If you liked the look of the BFG A/T look at the Cooper ST ( http://www.treadepot.com/group/dstl.html ) they look alot like it and Cooper is a good tire. They are also ALOT cheaper than the BFG's. This is what I'm planning on getting when I get some this summer.

The Toyo Open Country A/T are good tires too and are less aggressive than the Coopers
