According to a document released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last week, the agency is investigating more than two dozen complaints from drivers alleging their cars stalled while underway, including while on a highway or at an intersection.

The investigation affects nearly 400,000 Corolla and Matrix vehicles from model year 2006. NHTSA says it is investigating whether there is an "Electronic Control Module (ECM) malfunction resulting in engine stall while driving." The ECM is the electronic "brain" that controls a host of vehicle functions, including the throttle. Safety advocates suggest problems with the ECM may also be at fault for problems with sudden acceleration.

Each car company seems to have gone through this. Remember GM isn't immune and has had it's share of quality issues in the past (and present it seems).

A few more of these Toyota recalls and GM might actually start looking pretty good. :rollin:

But yeah, let's not act like GM is the model of quality and reliability... you know, since they aren't.

Granted GM has had problems.... but none THIS severe that I can think of off-hand that affected as many vehicles as Toyota's problems have affected.

All that Bean Counting and Cost Cutting has FINALLY Come Back and Bitten Toyota on the Rear Differential! now if the Big 3 play their cards right, they Can Rocket Past Toyota and go after Honda!

Maybe not, but GM has had their fair share of safety issues that were bad for PR (Astro Van crash ratings, 72-88 pickup gas tank hazards, etc).

Don't forget about the U-Body Crash test ratings! at least it wasn't as bad as the Toyota Previa!

Yet Another Toyota Recall!, This time, it's for random stalling

Title is misleading. Where is this listed as a recall? I believe the stalling issue is currently being investigated by the NHTSA.

Interesting read, however.

And no one let GM get away with it either.

I'm just glad the press is holding Tojo (somewhat) responsible. It is a big deal, regardless of who made the mistake. :)

Toyota lover alert! :M16:

Why are you defending them? :)

If there's an issue, it will become a recall soon enough.

:M16: Bye bye, Toyota!

Uh...I doubt it. It's going to take a lot more than this.

Based on issues we have had with 2 of my wife's past Lexus' (IS300 & GS300), I doubt I will ever buy another Toyota product again. I am by no means defending Toyota and firmly believe their quality is nothing more than perceived quality by the consumer. In reality, I think GM's quality the last few years has been better than Toyota's. That being said, I am not going to jump on the bandwagon of brand bashing. It gets old quick. :)
