I have OEM 22" rims on my Denali and I did not notice a change in the ride quality at all. As long as you stil have some sidewall and have not gone with too low profile of a tire you will be fine.

Would you believe that I saw factory 22" wheels on a midsize Ford SUV recently? Looked out of proportion for the size of the vehicle. Some kind of sport package and a ridiculously high MSRP - high 40's IIRC.

Dont mean to thead hi-jack... but i was looking into getting my front bumper cover painted as well. Guy i took it to talked me out of it by telling me it was going to cost a heap because he would have to remove the whole front bumper to get the black plastic lip off and then use some special flexibile plastic paint to cover the dimples and hold up under the flex...

any truth to that? and if so, what did i cost to have it painted???

great looking truck btw.

I have 22" wheels on my truck during the warmer months, and for me personally they're a HUGE improvement when it comes to handling and ride quality. I have load range "E" BFG All-Terrain's on my stock 17" wheels for use in the winter so that may be why there is such a difference. With the 17" wheels on it rides like 1-ton truck, steering is pretty numb and the road noise is noticeable (although not that bad). With the 22's the truck handles MUCH better; steering feels more precise and the ride softens up quite a bit. It doesn't have that typical buck from the rear axle when going over bumps. I thought the steering might suffer from the wider tire (305mm) but it doesn't grab onto road imperfections or anything like that.

So yeah, I really like the 22" wheels over my stock 17's. I do the majority of my driving on twisty 2 lane (sometimes 1 lane!) roads, so cornering and steering feel are very important. It feels very solid on the highway too, the extra mass of the wheels may have something to do with that.

And here's a pic for reference, no suspension modification, running 305/40/22s

I had some am 22s on my wife's Tahoe w/ Nexen HP 305 45 22 and they are the best riding tires that we have had on that truck. I miss them wheels post-70720-1265071173_thumb.jpg

I thought about it but then I decided against it thinking what if I have to step up there for something and since I have had it painted I have never steped on the bumper. I have been considering getting it done but have not. Not sure if and when I will actually get it done though.
