2010 Radio Usb And Ipod

Alright guys, first post here, but I've been lurking for a while.

I bought a 2010 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 LTZ back at the end of December. As you know, the 2010's have the USB connector in the center console (for the LTZ's) for the audio system. I've been connecting my iPod to it with no problems except for one.

If I connect the iPod to the truck it works fine, but if I leave the iPod connected in the truck over night or something, when I go to use it in the truck the next day, the battery on the iPod is completely dead. After 10-15 minutes of being connected, the iPod will start to play again (I guess the battery charges up enough for it to play). It is like the truck doesn't shut the iPod off when the truck is turned off or something. Anybody having any similar issues?

I know for a fact it's not my iPod causing the problem. I use it in my other vehicles with no problems.

Thanks

Nope, you can't use any of the buttons on the iPod while it is connected to the truck. There is a GM logo that appears on the iPod screen and none of the buttons have any functionality. I wasn't expecting the iPod to charge while the truck was turned off, but I would expect the audio system to turn off the iPod like all the other vehicles with iPod interfaces do. I could unplug the iPod everytime I get out of the truck, but that would be a hassle.

Just curious to see if anyone else has experienced what I'm experiencing or if this is just my truck acting weird.

Its not an LTZ option, my LT also has this. It is in the center console if you have bucket seats.

Mines doe the same. It will not turn the IPOD off or charge once the truck is turned off.

I appreciate the responses.

I guess it's good to know that it's not just my truck that does it, but that definitely sucks. I wonder what their logic was for not having it shut off the device that's plugged in through the USB port? Does turning the iPod to the hold position work all the time? Sounds like I might as well just unplug it if I am going to have to open the console up and mess with it anyways.

So far, this is my only complaint with the truck. Not a big deal at all, just a little annoying.

I think the original intent was for the USB connectivity to be for a traditional flash/"thumb" drive. However you would THINK that they could build the software smart enough to recognize when an ipod is plugged in and make the system disconnect the device (which would make the ipod turn itself off after a few minutes of idle) but who knows.

I was thinking the same thing, but when the iPod is connected and working, the word "ipod" shows up on the radio display and you can completely control the iPod's playlists and settings through the radio (and steering wheel controls). So they did put a lot of effort into making the system compatible with the iPod, they just didn't go all the way and make sure it turned the device off after the vehicle was shut off.

Hey,

I dont use an Ipod but I do put a USB stick in there and leave it in 24/7. Just a suggestion if you are concerned about your Ipod getting damaged.

My 4GB usb stick plays flawlessly. When i turn the car on the music is instantly there or if I switch through folders, songs, etc the music is instantly there.

Also are in Canadian? I ask due to your forum name, if that's the case id watch out about leaving your Ipod in the car over night during the winter. I lost an Ipod due to below 0 temps.

Another thing I thought of; when I picked up my truck the dealership rep showed me the little headphone jack hole and said "this is for your ipod" and then showed me the usb port and said this is for your thumb drive. Maybe try and use the ear phone jack instead though, I admit, it will look ugly with the Ipod laying around on the center console. I like how the usb port is hidden away.

Hope you figure it out,

You can't use the radio or steering wheel controls for the iPod by connecting it that way, either.

Sorry for stealing the topic, but on the '09s, where does the PAL hook into the truck? (no USB Port on the front of the Dash.)

Assuming you're talking about the GM PAL module that plugs in-line with the XM radio receiver, it's behind the glove box.

I have over 20gb of music, so I don't want to have to go out and buy a bigger capacity thumb drive. Plus, the iPod has way more functionality as far as playlists and playing options. No, I'm not in Canada....not sure how you got that out of my screen name either. lol From the South, but I know it's not good to leave it outside when the temps get colder, but I haven't had any problems and my iPod is couple of years old. I don't want to use the 3.5mm auxillary input because, as V8GMT Guy said, you can't control the iPod through the steering wheel or radio controls.

There is a 2 line display when using the iPod. I think it displays the song title on one line and the artist on the other.

That's all I can answer.
