Hood Deflector - Suggestions / Pics?

Recommended Posts

So I picked up a couple of OEM accessories yesterday to improve the look of my truck.

Rear Tailgate Spoiler - not permanently installed yet, but WAY better than the cheapo original that was on there before.

Hood Deflector "visor" - not sure I like the look of this one...

I was hoping for something a bit more angular, not following the rounded hood line quite so much. I do not mind the way it "hugs" the hood right to left, I just wish it turned up slightly as it comes up. Not sure if I'm explaining that right, but that's what I think I've seen on other trucks.

So, I assume the one I am after may be an after-market unit. Does anyone have a photo (specific to the 2006 or similar model year would be preferred)? And if they are after-market, where did you source them?

Thanks in advance.

I am thinking that on your truck it looks good. It seems to be the opinion of a lot of 900 series truck owners that bug deflectors don't look so well, and to be honest, I haven't seen any that are complementary to the nbs. I wouldn't worry so much about the flared up look. Prior to my Sierra All Terrain, I had a 2001 Dodge 360 ext cab, and all I could find for bug shields were flared up, and I thought they didn't look good at all. The way yours conforms to the hood makes it look natural, not gawdy, and the smoke look looks good with the white paint. How does the rear tailgate spoiler look? Got a pic? BTW, if I have a pic of my old ungodly upturned bug deflector on my dodge I will post it, and I promise you will be in love with yours if you see it! BLECH!

Thanks Man,

I don't think mine looks horrible - I was just hoping to have something to get away from the "smooth" look.

To be honest, I've always been a Bow-tie Guy, and when looking to replace my '86 Silverado, I was really hoping I would find another Silverado - since I tend to like the angular look of their front ends a bit better than the Sierras (I know they are the same truck). Unfortunately, I could not find seomthing I wanted to buy. And when I saw this one (a fully loaded Nevada Edition) I made te switch - and I love the truck. And to be honest, the more "rounded" front end is growing on me...

As for the tailgate spoiler, it's not installed yet (I need the dealer to install the press nuts (or whatever they're called) in the tailgate, but the "dry fit" looked good. MUCH better than the the original one. I expect to have it installed later this week - I'll pst a pic.

Thanks again.

Check out Lund if you want the 'flared' look. I put a Lund Interceptor II deflector on mine this summer and at first didn't like the look of it, but it has grown on me, I love it from inside the cab, and it looks great outside to. I just had to get used to how it sticks out slightly to protect your fenders as well, but i think it has the 'flared' look your speaking off. The picture on their website isn't good, but maybe you can find one on another or see one at a local parts store. It was around $70 I think, but someone bought it for me so i am not sure on the price.

That is a nice square look without getting insane with a flare!

If I could find my darn camera which I have somehow misplaced I could take a picture. I might have some on my work computer though that shows it. I will look tomorrow.

I picked it up at the dealer, so it is a geniune GM part. It's black plastic, and has a wide, flat top - looks kinda like a step. It actually gets screwed into factory holes in the tailgate, as opposed to simple 2-sided tape. Plastic stuff taped to a vehicle in our climate tends to shrink when the cold winters hit. The tape eventually fails.

I'll try and remember to take a photo of the "dry-fit" tonight and post it.

Photobucket if you got an account. If not email to me and I will post it for you from my photobucket account.... or I believe you can do it directly in a reply... look at the bottom right corner of the "reply box" you should see "Browse" and next to it a green button called UPLOAD

either way... [email protected]

Thanks for the photos, but aside from making me a touch jealous, they really do not help me out - since your ride is a Silverado, with a significantly different (and more attractive (to me)) hood, fender and clip design. The lines are more angular, and kind of "scowling", where the Sierra is softer and more rounded. I was trying to get some of that "angular" look accented on the Sierra, but I suspect I may not be able to accomplish this.

Oh well, I still like my truck. :D

Thanks again.

So finally got the spoiler installed. I actually needed to take it to the dealer to have the nuts installed in the tailgate, so they did the whole thing for me. And since they had originally told me "all hardware was included", they gave me the fasteners free of charge (approx. $40) and installed the whole thing for a mere $30.

Attached are some photos. I avoided overall shots to avoid showing how FILTHY the truck is. I'm still getting used to the bug deflector, but I love the spoiler - compared to what was there before.

Now just to get the spray-on bed liner and bed side rails...

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
