Check Gauges Light 1992 Sierra

I have a 1992 Sierra with a 5.0 and recently the check guages light started coming on occasionally and when it did the temp. gauge and the oil psi gauge would quit working. Keep in mind this is the check gauges light not the check engine light. I tried pulling a code but that didn't help. Actually the temp. guage would nearly peg when the check gauges light came on. I replaced the thermostat even though a heat gun said the engine was at normal temp. I also have replaced the temp. sensor/sender? at the front of the intake manifold. Lately the check gauges light is on 100% of the time. The engine runs fine. Any suggestions? Thanks

Usually the check guage light comes on because of the swing on your other guages. Did your changes to the thermostat and sending unit work? Also, did you check the guage temp sending unit on the driver side of the motor? Is your oil pressure guage working correctly? The sending unit is down by the filter if I remember correctly.

I know it's been a while since I've been on this forum, been busy, still have problem. No, changing thermostat and sensor by thermostat didn't help. I agree check gages light is possibly on because of faulty sender but also wondering if it may be because of some computer malfunction? I both disconnected and grounded the temp. sender on side of engine, no change. One thing I haven't looked into is the oil sender. Will try that next unless someone has a better idea, but my oil and temp. guages are still pegged and don't move with key on or off but my fuel guage works.

Check and see if you have a temp sending unit for the gauge itself. I have an 88 S-10 Blazer that exhibits the same problems. I replaced the temp sending unit in the head and it didn't clear up the problem. The ECM sensor in the intake was working fine and registering the correct engine temp

I am assuming the sender on the drivers side by the exhaust manifold is the guage sender, I both unhooked and grounded the wire with no change in the gauge. What puzzles me is that this problem affects both the oil and temp guages. Makes me think it is something other than senders or sensors but don't know where to look.
