Protecting Against Frame Corrosion

Recommended Posts

Posted

I was driving off road the other day and I scraped the bottom of my frame in some places, thus exposing the metal in such a way that the coating is totally gone. Is there any way I can put something on the exposed spots to protect the metal like with paint or something like that?

You can use any good undercoating in an aerosol can for touch-up,I actually have a can of the OE wax coating that GM uses at the factory.

So that's what that is under there. I had scraped it when I was lifting my Sierra and I was wondering what that stuff was. You, sir, are a wealth of information.

Heres a link to there website...Daubert Chemical Co.

And a description of the product.....

NOX-RUST® X-121 BLACK

"NOX-RUST X-121 BLACK is a thixotropic wax-gel rustproofing compound designed to provide a long-term protective film for automotive primed and unprimed steel. NOX-RUST X-121 BLACK will dry to a firm wax-like film that will repel water, self-heal, and remain flexible at low temperatures."

I can use some too, as every time I lift the truck in our hobby shop, the lift rubber pads dig into and scrape some of the frame coating off. I have been fixing the spots with rubberized undercoating spray, which works fine too.

Anybody know where I can get Daubert Nox-Rust X-121 Black in a size larger than an aerosol can? Maybe like a gallon or so?

I've been searching for that myself; unfortunately it looks like you either get an aerosol can or a 55-gal. drum of the stuff

This is some excellent stuff also to use... KENT AUTOMOTIVE

It can be used inside doors (use the extension tube and spray it inside through the drain holes) around the striker on the hood, or anywhere that two panels meet, our body shop uses this and it works great to prevent corrosion,it sprays out thin like WD-40,but then thickens-up to a non sticky, non dust attracting,wax-like coating.

I need to get something like that, I wont be spending $11/can so maybe I can find something cheaper.
