Name That Sound.....

Ok so I did some searching on the forum and could not come up with something similar to help me out. I was wondering if anyone had any input.

I have a squeak that is coming from the passenger side of the truck behind the cab somewhere. I only hear it when driving over bumps in the road (small or large it doesn't matter) and it sounds like a rattle/squeak sound. I cannot duplicate the sound when I shake the truck and I crawled under the truck and shook everything I could think of and still could not duplicate it. I know it is coming from the outside because I had the windows down the other day and it was even louder than normal.

The only thing under the truck that was making noise when I shook it was the rear passenger side strut which was making a loud squishing sound (did not sound normal). Could this be the noise?

I thought at first it was a loose bed mount but I had some work performed last week where they took the bed off and set it back on so I am certain everything is tight there.

Any help would be appreciated!

You have an extended cab right. If so I think it's the cab making the noise, mine does it and I've taken it to the dealership but nothing. I've read on here that putting something on the trim around the doors makes it go away.

Get someone (preferably hefty) to bounce on your bumper whilst you're underneath to ID the location.

My '03 Silverado had a prominent squeak (but no rattle noise) when new that drove me crazy. Went away in wet weather.

Finally determined it was one of the body mount bushings.

Unbolted it, jacked up bed a bit, liberal application of silicone grease, and it's been quiet ever since.

IF you have nerf/side step bars, check to see if there's at least 1/4" clearance between the body mount pockets and the bar mount brackets. Contact here could cause a "creaking" sound when moving/flexing.

You sure it's not just the movement of your Leaf springs? Try a little lubrication between the leafs on your rear suspension. Mine did that until I shot some silicone spray in there and it stopped...

I think I found it guys....

I was playing around with the latches to my bed cover and it turns out it was the latch rubbing on the catch metal to metal. I put some bearing grease on them and the sound went away. Now I want to get some better grease that will not turn to water when the sun is beating on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I spent a good couple of hours this evening searching all of the possibilities.

Also, now that I have fixed that, I am still worried about the strut that was making the squishing noise... Is that normal?
