I have an 09 with backup sensors and they freak out sometimes for no reason when i backup. took it to dealer and they said as usual... "everything is functioning like it should" and they gave me list of items that would make it freak. One item was leaving the hitch in. anyone have that problem? i had a chevy 07 avalanche prior and i always left the same hitch in and never had a problem... just curious.

Friend of mine said the "sensitivity" of the sensors is a bit more than when they once were. Dont know if this is true buy maybe you could get your hands on a sensor and do a swap?

ehh... not all that worried about it just kind of a pain and a waste. personally i dont like gm's version... now this might offend someone but my ford excursion has backup sensors that i really like. gm should make theirs like the ford's. there are no lame lights (that you cant see) and the closer you get to something the beeping gets faster and faster until it is a soild beep and your a few inches from the object. it is just sad that i cant leave me hitch in. oh well..

A friend of mine had an 07 2500 w/ the backup sensors and they would go nuts if he left in the hitch. I would say it's a common occurance. I dont use my hitch or have the sensors but I can see how that would be a pain in the butt. Like you said, oh well!

you would think that GM would have figured this out by 09 models?? when it rains it is even worse... you cant turn the darn thing off sometimes but ALAS.. the dealer said it is working fine. they said they ran it thru the car wash and it worked fine. well it needed a good wash but that still didnt replicate rain as water doesnt get thrown under the bumper.... wonder if your friend had that problem. what annoys me is the dealer tells me all is well.. its like going to the doctor. the problem is gone once you get there. :D

Yeah no kidding! When I bought my 09 there was a whistleing sound coming from the AC every time the compressor kicked on. With only 200 miles! I was told everything was fine. Well enough complaining They finally replaced the compressor and what do ya know, the whistleing went away!

As for the rain, I couldnt tell ya if he had that problem. He only had the truck for about 3 months! But he did stick with GM! :D

kind of sad you can't leave the stuff in there when you pay soooo much for the truck. i just turn mine off when it acts up when i backup....

I had a Bowtie hitch cover that I used to keep in that would mess it up as well. I ended up having to take it out.

Just curious because I dont have the back up sensors. I always thought this would be a problem so I opt not to get them. Here it is, if you have a trailer on the back, Does the sensor constantly beep when you back up? That is the only reason why I dont get them.

I think it depends on what kind of hitch you have installed. I have a 2" drop hitch in the reciever all the time with no trouble at all. I should try my straight hitch once and see if that affects it. I have noticed that any chunk of snow or ice on the ball or hitch and it acts up.

07Silveradoman20: the URPA system only beeps once when it detects an object, then steady beep for 3 secs. when you get about 12in. away from anything, up to that point, you watch the proximity lights on the display by the rear window... 2 yellows and 1 red.

I always thought that those backup sensors were a useless contraption. I think a good aftermarket rear view camera is the way to go.

I agree that I would rather have had a rearview camera instead of the backup sensors. I have the backup sensors, and with my 2 inch drop hitch installed, my backup system is disabled. the problem with that is that you have to push the DIC button every time you go from Park or Reverse into Drive to clear the message from the DIC. It seems like a small step to have to take, but after 9 months of ownership with the hitch in 75% of the time, it has become annoying.

I read another thread here once where a guy had tried painting over them to reduce sensitivity, with some success. (Or maybe he tried covering them with tape.) I guess it's time to do a search for for that thread...

On mine, they automatically turn off if I have a trailer attached.

My back up sensor works fine with a regular 2" ball on my receiver hitch but when I put my pentle hitch in the receiver I have to turn it off or listen to the beeps. Must be very sensitive! Other than that it works good but I still like my camera better. I have both and could really do without the back up "beeper".
